I feel the hair is out of place here and needs improving :-)
Any techniques/advices, even basic ones, are appreciated!

Focus on getting the overall form first, then worry about the details like getting the "hair texture". Figure out where the lights hits least and shade there, and highlight where it hits the most. Then, you can detail the edges of the shadows and highlights (and possibly add more) to produce a more hair-like look.

Okay, that's what I've got so far...

Am I doing hair shading correct?

the hair is looking godd. now break it up one more level, and then try to suggest texture with detail. you have a solid base, now make it more natural and we can critique your attempt.

you also having problems with extra colors and some colors lack contrast from others, like the pink at the bottom of the chin

With your help guys I have some progress:

Tweaked some non-hair parts too.
@Friend, I added some colors, but I don't want this particular line to be noticeable. You can see in the reference what I nearly want to achieve

Be careful not to lose those well-defined forms when adding the hair detail. Don't worry about having long continuous lines in the hair. One hardly ever sees such clear lines in hair. We "know" they're there because we know what hair is, but we can't actually see them most of the time. Suggest the texture. You have neither the room nor the need to draw it all out.

elshiya is right. try doubling your pixel brush to 2.0 size and do lines like that. draw a 1 pixel line here and there, but overall think more in clusters of pixels than single pixel lines:

you wont get far drawing each strand out. you will have to imply detail and form powerful clusters. try to FEEL the hair you pixel rather than try to make yourself SEE it

Wonderful progress. A couple of notes

It seems she has multiple shades of color in her hair, but how you've done so confused us to the volumes of the hair so it looks flat. Try adding highlights of different color after you've already made her hair look good as plain brown?

The overall shape of the hair here and there seems a bit unnatural. Especially the left side how it looks like she has hair that grows from the back of the head to the front. Study how hair is laid on the head. Where the hairlines are and the direction hair grows in different places.

This leads into another point. Your ideas are there, now be more bold and emotional with how you do it. Give it life, even if it is to make her hair seem more ratty or ugly. For instance you can give her lots of stray and crooked strands or emphasize more the strands you did to the left of the earring on the left side. Give her strays at the top. Give some blank space in between the hair at the right side so it's not just a wall of hair. In her pose, she would have gaps in the hair to see through there. The hair on her chest on the right side looks more like pudding than hair so it needs work there.

Overall you're doing great
