Pixeljoint is holding another pallette competition which is open to everyone and is quite simple.

Submit your 11 color unique + original color palette.
The winning palette will be used in PJs next ISOcollab.

Add a rare trophy to your profile.

Comp closes in 2 weeks, April 26, 2016. (CLOSED!)

- The winning palette will be used on PJs next ISOcollab project. If you submit a palette you acknowledge that it will be used by others for the purpose of this project and credit may not be posted by participants if they submit their project piece to their gallery but you will get overall credit for it. These palettes are not to be considered art so please do not submit to your galleries. Its best to assume that others may use your palette beyond this project. By entering you are giving permission to others to use.

- Win a spiffy trophy + points which are rare and will look great in your profile.
+1000 Pts+500 Pts +250 Pts+100 Pts-HM*

*honorable mentions may be awarded.

- Judges are your PJ Mods and select invited PJ members.

- Palettes will be judged on the basis of how it would work on the project theme, which will be kept a mystery to participants.

- You may enter more than once but quality is better than quantity.

- A unique + original palette is the goal but a well balanced palette is very important even if your entry is monochromatic.

- Use this template for your submission.
You must name the HEX values and NO black - 000000 or white - FFFFFF

Not used to making palettes but I'll give it a shot. Tried it out on a piece of armor I made earlier and I liked it pretty well.

ps. if there's somewhere else I should submit this please let me know.

pps. Is there a pixel font tool you used for your codes or some other source? Making each letter for these was a bit time consuming and might discourage multiple entries.

You're good. Posting here is all that's needed.

Font is 'silkscreen' and available for download from the links 'fonts' section of the gallery and is generically considered the basic 5px font.

Here's my take and a test:

I just hope it's not too close to an existing palette. I initially saw it was a tad bit similar to the Fun16 palette (the one from the ISOtopes collab), at least to me, so I tried to alter it and not make it too similar.

Here's my take. Using the palette analyzer for Grafx2 in DB's Toolbox, here's an analysis:

Pros: You can get an okay greyscale using the blues and green, it's got a good red ramp, a decent blue ramp, a green ramp with the blue and yellow, a purple and a skin tone.

Cons: Only one green, no pink (though this can be simulated using the red and darker orange) and no straight greys.

Finally, here are remaps of other people's work in this palette.

(Some Pocket Monsters by cure, the preview for Super Mario Bros HD by Jinn, Into The Deep by a3um, Vierbit's avatar, some Star Wars characters by ElectroNico, Fool's Find Waldo, NES Megaman Redo Mockup by Snake and The Legend of Iya Mockup 01 by DarkfalzX)

edit: Thanks man! v(below)

Quick sketches with the palette to show how colors can be used in different ways.
The really thing here and about things I do as well is to use lots of black.

Here is my simple effort, inspired by late Autumn and Winter. A darker but hopefully well balanced and versatile little number with a pastel finish...

As stated in the rules for the comp these palettes (or any palette) is not added to the gallery as standalone art because they are more of a tool/resource than pixelart.
That's why it was sent back ;).

This one's a little experimental. It has two four-color ramps, one warm, one cold, with the remaining three colors used to bridge the two. This makes for some interesting shading/lighting possibilities.

Nice entry, BigPotato!
Similar to the concept I was shooting for but more deftly executed. Will have to toy around with this, looks versatile, if not a bit lacking in blues.

Making the palette was both fun and difficult, I should try to do this more often.

Work in progress. Will (probably) update it and make some pictures after Ludum Dare.

Also, funny thing. Last palette challenge was right after last year's april Ludum. So it's approximately one year since then.

DRZ11B, a more mellow, desaturated palette to cover the potential collab themes that my first palette doesn't cover :P

The blue ramp can double as a grey ramp if some of the warmer colours are mixed well.

Also, an update for DRZ11A:

(I just made the yellow darker)

Think this'll be my last one. I was going for balance here. It's got a purple-blue-cyan ramp, a red-orange-yellow ramp, a green ramp that can double as a greyscale, a deep purple-brown, and a black.

Updating my previous submission:

Inspired by City in the Sky from Twilight Princess.

Run through DB's analyzer (old version, so BG not excluded), mostly useful for colorspace metric and dithering examples. This palette is pretty versatile for its range, but that range is somewhat limited in application. Lack of reds, mostly; I've been having trouble altering the palette to include these while maintaining the verdant feeling of the palette as a whole.

I'm curious of your impressions... Critique very welcome.

My attempt! When I was browsing the ones that were already submitted I was wondering why they all seemed kinda similar. Turns out with 11 colors there are only so many things you can do to make the palette work.

I aimed for a brighter more friendly palette, as lots of dark/low-sat ones have already been submitted. I built it up around three ramps.

It ended up feeling (imo) somewhat similar to Dawnbringers palettes, which I guess is a good and a bad thing.

Some quick sketches.

I wasn't a huge fan of the first one... But I also gave up on it prematurely, and they are significantly different. No harm in keeping it around, so we can leave it up.
