CHALLENGE: Press Any ButtonSome of the best moments of 80s were when you finally saw the title screen of a Commodore 64 game after a really long wait. This week, we want you to draw a title screen of a game for Commodore 64. The game can be an original one you imagined, or an existing one with a different title screen. You must use the C64 palette with fat pixels (2x1 horizontal pixels) and C64 resolution. Canvas Size - Exactly 320 x 200 (horizontal)

Is there a way to draw with wide pixels during the actual drawing process, or will I have to draw it at half-width and then stretch it out?

Best options:
1. Use a 2x1 brush, preferrably with a 2 px snap-grid. 2. Draw single pixels on a 160x200 image in a 2x1 pixel resolution view-mode and then double the width. (if your program supports that) 3. Use a dedicated C64 paint program...but then you'll probably have full Mcol restrictions with max 4 colors per 8x8 char (which is not required in this challenge) |

Here's what I got so far, a C64-style title for the game I'm working on, Latka.
![]() I don't know why, but I'm having a transparency issue with the silhouettes in the background. They say they're at 255 opacity but if you use the fill bucket you can tell there's different colors in there. Also the transparent pixels around their outlines are completely unintentional. |

I decided to just switch over to Paintbrush (MSPaint for Mac)

Seems really good, just add the title maybe and you're good to go.

Grafx2, Aseprite and of course Photoshop all have pixel aspect settings, so you make a 160w 200h image and display as 2:1. Make sure to export the stretched version as well if you want it it show up right on PJ!

Does Asesprite do tileset editing? I'm using PyxelEdit for now, but it darkens colors when I import them and it really REALLY annoys me.

![]() Coming along! Decided to mash up two existing games both featuring characters designs by Amano (FFVI and Kartia). Kept the green hair from Terra's sprite and will probably take a few more liberties before we're finished... |

You can also change the pixel ratio in the "view" menu post-creation; Since it is only used for preview purposes (and is not encoded with the image). This is v convenient but does mean you have to resale when exporting!

For Aseprite, options for wide pixels is under "Advanced Options" checkbox on the "New Sprite" window.

Thanks @railslave, but we have a ton of talented low-spec artists lurking around here that could teach me loads (yourself included!), not to mention I have to finish + submit before I'm even in the running ;)
