![]() Topic: New Here, not new to PixellingPosted: 27 July 2006 at 9:47pm |

I'm pretty new here and saw all the awesome work and decided to try my hand at something different. For the most part, I've been working with pixel cars- using the 3 mains views (front/side/rear) and some modifications without too much success.
Here's the beginning of what's going to be a custom house with a 4-car garage (haven't even begun the house but wanted to get the general layout of the ground)
![]() I know the water in the pool doesn't look right, but I was wondering if anyone has a tutorial or a method to make it flow perfectly. I tried using AA, at first, and it looked extremely blurry. Secondly, I plan on adding perhaps two or three cars, but without a proper reference for the 3/4 view (I can't get my TV Tuner to work so I can't capture the image of the Evo VI, 22B, or Evo IV in the oil change area of GT4) it looks like that shall be a very difficult road to travel. I was also thinking about perhaps making a dimensional mountain outside the fence towards the top-right, but don't know how to go about that.

Dither the pool to smooth it out, though I suggest a different colour for the water. That colour of blue doesn't look natural. From what I remember, it tends to be a lighter greenish-blue when it comes to poolwater. Other than that, add some texture to your roof (shingles?), fence, garage doors, and walls. Other than THAT, I'll leave the C&C to the iso artists. |

Isometric does NOT use ever AA*. The lines are pre-determined at 25.565
deggrees for this purpose. Else isometric would use the conventional 30
degrees. You may however dither to your hearts content to achieve good
blends in the water.
*Except in the rare case when an organic shape is used and this is considered a mistake in isometric pixelart (I do it all the time :p) |

I can't see why AA would be a bad thing in ISO.. it's not used often enough and clearly enough nor properly perhaps but it can and should be used in certain objects.
Anyways, I really think you should rethink your colours. They aren't very saturated at all and I feel they're very dull and lack contrast |

Thanks for the replies :)
I haven't started detailing the work as of yet, because this is my first time doing ISO-related work. Now that I look at it, the garage seems to fall short symmetrically. Or perhaps its just the perspective that throws it off. Also, I didn't know that AA wasn't used. Coming from two Pixel/Manga car forums, AA is practically the 'golden fleece' to having a more complete piece. I studied the work of another member here to get an idea of how to do shingles, and from the looks of it, their technique is very similar to the way pixel car artists work with carbon fiber. That is why I also brought up the AA issue. But if Iso-art veers away from that, then I will have to remedy my own style to steer away from it- which will be difficult considering I have spent the last 6 months working up to use AA whenever possible to smooth out the tunes. As for the colors. They are pretty basic. I haven't come up with a definitely palette to use- partially because my fiancee is always throwing her two cents in (wants me to design a custom home). Once again, thanks for the responses. You all have left me with quite a bit to consider. On another positive note, you guys seem alot more 'welcoming' than those other manga car forums, who would tear new members apart when they aren't on the same 'level' as the veterans. |

If you AAd an iso line (well), it would still be going in the same direction, no?

AA can be used and I said I do it on accasion. However, iso lines don't
need it since iso lines are clean, this is why some iso artist frown
upon it.
