Hello,

I am a beginner in pixel-art, and decided recently to start drawing stuff. I have posted a few pictures, my first ones, not fantastic I know, but everything has to start somehow.

In order to progress further, I decided to try something else. I want to make a more elaborated picture while keeping the 16 colors + MegaDrive palette (512) limit. I will probably be sticking to this a lot, because I like this.

I am planning on putting 3 characters, each will use 4 colors. This leaves me 4 other colors : 3 for the lighting (white/grey/black) and one for the skin (common to all characters).

Here is the beginning with one character :

I am trying to progress in how to represent shadows, how to place them (on the clothes). Working with few colors also helps me understand what is important and what is not.

The other two characters will be on the right left, and will be oriented in diagonal then (towards the top center of the picture). Or I could instead make a background, not too sure about how I should continue :)

Thank you for your feedback in advance !

I'm not good enough with shading to give you any advice, but I do want to say that your work looks great so far.

Here is an update, I have been working a bit on it these days.

I added the two other characters. Not too sure of what I am going to draw at the top yet. The 16 colors are locked, so whatever I draw needs to use these colors.

Hey, looks very intriguing. I would recommend softening the shadows slightly. Using some more advanced dithering you can achieve a very cool look here.

Another note, the characters seem to pop out of the environment, if this was the goal you're golden if not... Maybe some more unique use of colour would be very beneficial here.
