Not bad thus far but you might want to try a couple things:
1. Shading on his clothes 2. Bigger feet. 3. Darker lines on his face. |

Apart from the lack of shading, I think the biggest problem with this is his face. It doesn't at all look like him. Like you've drawn him, he could be any black haired middle-aged man in this world. You really need to define his facial features, like this:
![]() Of course, this aint perfect either, his forehead needs to be somewhat larger, maybe 1-2 pixels, but you can see what I mean. This actually looks like him. You need to be able to tell when drawing someone: Oh right, that's Adrian Monk. And that ain't gonna happen if you leave his face undefined. If the face is undefined, it doesn't matter how deatailed the body is, you wont recognize him. Edited by Opacus - 05 February 2007 at 3:16am |

Try upping the contrast and looking at the previous edit. You really need to choose a light source also.

I see no shades, only some cylinder formed highlights. Clothes fold, they arent shaded like tube like what you currently have going on...oh wait, now I see some extremely minor shading. This needs far more contrast. |

The only thing you've done is tweak the contrast. That's ALL you've done. Why don't you try spending some more time on this and thinking about light sources and shading as well as anatomy?

I never said it was a major update... and I did a little more than that. I added some shading, made some lines smoother/thicker.

Is it really? I hadn't heard of it until I saw this topic.
At this point, I don't think pixel-level critiques are going to benefit you as much as general art ones. I think this piece needs a grounding in realistic shading. All you're doing is shading off the outline and you're not representing depth or form. I suggest looking at shadings of spheres and cylinders to see how you can shade individual bits of the guy. If you don't know how to do that, a google search would do a world of help. It's actually be less work than typing a reply to this message. Go ahead and help yourself.
You have a lot of straight lines and boring shapes in the piece; this shows a general lack of knowledge about composition. I think taking an art fundamentals course at school would provide a lot of the theory behind the creation of line art. You'll learn what you represent with different types of lines, different shading methods, and other techniques and concepts which you can apply to all the media with which you express yourself.
Good luck!
