After a long time spent... not pixelling, I've finally gotten around to doing another piece. It's mostly an abstract collection of sketches and patterns, but if anyone has any critique it'd be appreciated. Surely I'm a bit rusty after such a hiatus.

I'll be filling the negative space in the lower right with something, I just don't know what yet.

Makes me think of Zelda. xD /is playing Zelda right now

Everything seems to be placed kinda randomly. Maybe you should try organizing them or something. I think it would be cooler if you varied their sizes, but it might be too late for that.

You've got some wicked AA there, though. I love the green color. And the fading on the right is done really well. <3 It doesn't need much critique, really.

BRIEF: Monkeys must evolve sometime :p

Like all the color doodles in your gallery, this is fantastic. I will c+c this on the basis of 'robot' (your best). Even with such an unorthodox layout style as these pieces are. This doesn't explore much within the parameters of this style. You might be rusty and therefore just catching up to yourself but its still worth it to examine the color doodles yourself to see where you left off.

My take:
Zombehsaur = first one, crude and sloppy but nice
Robot = a beginning of a style with solid imagery, very unique.
3 RNG = polishing process is obvious here
jungle = more polish, more refined AA
SOG = not much in way of evolution and grey, thus the most boring in the set
THIS ONE= almost no dithering (needed to fit in). The colors while excellent here I would change since you have a green one already. Maybe its about ochre, or purple, or magenta, or monkey brown...9.9
Layout-wise this is great. Is it time to add a 'new' feature to this style? Am I making to much out of your doodles? does it even matter on text-based browsers?

@Stitchy: Thanks. I think I will reorganize some of it, in particular move the beaker and goggles to the right of the fading and change the dimensions some.

@Jal: Actually, zombehsaur was made after the others and in retrospect begs for a more contrasting palette. But otherwise, I agree with your observations. I may try a subject that requires more dither, and I also understand about stretching the restricition. I've been wanting to do something with multiple background colors and to mix up the positive and negative space so I'll do those off farther to the right, I think.

Thanks for the comments!

With only 4 colours, that is an amazing peice of work. As Stichy said, they could do with organizing but not too much.

I've added some stuff such as a tree in four seasons and some plant bits. This tree by Alex Hanson-White was a great reference for shading the summer version, especially since it was a low-color piece (especially in the leaves) and had a similar style to what I was aiming for. I did move the stuff around and I think the piece is about finished for now; one more round of critiques seems sufficient if nobody notices any glaring mistakes.

I'd especially like to know which palette you like (or if you don't like any) and advice on how to portray a pecan shell (the round thing together with the plant parts) simply would be appreciated a bunch.

I have both contrast (trust me, it makes things brighter) and brightness set to max, but the mid-colour for all the palettes is lost within the black. The AA just aint allowed to work for me.

I like the red the best btw. But the only real reason any of the colour choices look especially good is because of their ability to go well with the other colours around them. Methinks. I might like red cus it's the easiest to see, too, lol.

Very pretty though :D
