Give it a stronger lightsource. Some wierd color jumping in the eye animations. I would have more colors on the body than the eyes.

You need 3 colours for the iris, max.
You forgot you need to shade the eyeball itself too, as well as the eyelid. It is flat, like a pancake. Why? Because you have shaded it like a pancake. I imagine he is not meant to look like a pancake, so you need to give him some shape and form with your shading, bring the highlights and shadows around his body. Don't bother with the animation yet. Good luck! Welcome to Pixeljoint! I'm sure there's alot for you to learn here. :D |

I like pancakes as much as the next person but it doesn't look like a pancake to me. It is a good first piece and if you just work on it a little bit more it will be even better. I totally agree with the color thing and animation, forget about the animation for now and get more color into the body and less in the eyes.

You won't make it look less flat just by adding another colour to the shading. The body's middle shade takes up more room than it should and the change in brightness of the shades are both too drastic, giving it a beveled look. Lift up your arm so it's facing the nearest light source and compare it to how this piece looks.

The simple way of shading that I use which I think works great because
it is simple and easy to learn is to know which way the light is coming
from and have shadows from the opposite direction.
![]() This probably isn't the best way of doing it but it works great for new people such as myself. I did a quick sloppy edit just to show you what I mean. |

Haha.. just to make things clear, i only meant in the way that it was flat, not that it actually looked like a pancake. Lawls. OT but meh. johndoe's pic shows your image with alot more depth, (i'm mainly looking at the eyeballs), make sure to study that zorg. Edited by Larwick - 16 August 2007 at 4:26pm |
