Hm after so much time I start to think again for pixeldam /after inspiration of Jal of course/ ;)
So think to make old type of garden with all dirty parts as wheels, chests, barrels, hay, plants, animals, ets ... If have time and not to lazy of course. Else will make only building hehehe Ok here is main building I will need and something as hayloft or shed but in next time ... I take two types of brown which are near as colours is this good I don't know but ... finished ![]() finished ![]() 3rd new project ![]() 4th idea for project ![]() PS the last blocks are WIP ! Thanks for all ideas and help :) Edited by zi-double - 01 September 2008 at 1:16am |

Very good, I prefere this more than the strict and squared iso.
It looks like an original heroic fantasy RPG house ! Continue in this way, and try with less details and less satured colors |

I think the overall shading is too uniform, especially on the roof, making it look kind of flat.

Before 1 year have one project for RPG but he never will finish. I make 2 buildings of that type than - but this is new except one type of windows :) Else I like RPG :)
FrostPumpkin I think that need much details !!! Because one building have too much details ! spartan_117 hm Lawrence yep for me roof is like flat because I placed 3 colours near one to other ... Here is 2 variants where in the roof I exchange places of two colours ... I have 5-6 pixels betlwen boards and can go and make better vision of second variant ? But than will look as old type of graph and I'm not shure :( Here repair some parts of the window covers, repair some wooden parts of column, some details on the wall, ets ... ![]() ![]() PS have only one element with grey, but I will need grey in another elements that is why I make him with diferent colours. front window is bad for me - maybe he is very big ... Now that I know your way of pixelling I won't mention some obvious things I know you'll get to later on.
At this stage I will point out that the roof and posts on the stairs are far too straight/classic iso lines and not the more fantasy lines elsewhere. The chimney is fine but may look better if it also had the curvy silhouette. Especially the opening. This one is weird because of the language thing. The front of the roof has 3 little things like braces or ties. The rear does not. This is gonna be an awesome block (be my neighbor when you submit it ;) Curious: What language do you speak? |

What I meant about the overall shading being too uniform is that since you have the roof curved there are bound to be shading differences over the expanse of the whole roof (not to mention shadows on the walls etc):
![]() Assuming the light is from above, the top part of the main concave roof should be slightly darker than the bottom part because it is facing more horizontally and not receiving as much light. Vice versa for the protruding roof, since it's convex. This shading should really be done from an early stage. |

It seems to me that the back peak of the roof (behind the chimney) goes a little too high. Don't know if this was just a style choice you made. It just throws off the perspective for me. Everything else looks great. I agree with lawrence about the shading too. The house has a lot of character to it but you can definitely improve on the sense of depth.

Yep jalonso
repair the roof over stairs - I test and with another types but think that type as front part is best ! In first work /below/ I test with little chimney, but maybe better is my first - because he is on the top of house and like he is from two sides of the roof, but place circle outlet on the top ... also repair that poor pillars on the stairs, repair the door and some other small corrections :)
Understand Lawrence :) Thanks you are totally right - I always think for lights on the vertikal elements. This is my mistakes :( But it's very good that somebody say me that. I will try with available colours and here start that, but in the end if I dislike result will add maybe 1 or 2 dirty colours :) kwigbo I will try to improve shadows ... else until now I make only classic iso, back part of roof is high, but think that roofs of such /fantasy/ buildings are out of simmetric ! This is just what I think :) ![]() ![]() Jal I know Bulgarian language hahaha. More seriously my english is very poor I easy understand when somebody write without translator, but wnen I must write something than going bad hah. That is why I prefer don't comment works because for me is difficult to give good critique, it's a pity but :( Else I know Russian better from English :) Also I talk with barry /he is live hehehe/ because I'm afraid that with so biggest buildings can need 2 blocks :( But in Pixel Creek when I choose you have one of the best black works which I see ![]() Thanks for so usefull comments :) I think that need veranda in front of the door, but will see ... Barry will ok anything you do ;) Maybe that big window can be visually cut down if you open the windows? or add an awning using the greens, and then any green added to that you can use in the garden? |

Generally this piece is excellent. However, the roof is bothering me some. It has very light colors for the highlight, and these colors everywhere make the piece look very flat if your eyes focus on the roof. So I'm suggesting darken the lightest colors of pieces of wood which are in shadow.
Otherwise, excellent as usual, zi.

The connection of the cottage to the hayloft is not logical.
It may be the base line. It may be something else. Perhaps a wider space between the two. Removing the third window (next to the door). Or a small roof to connect them on the second floor. |

I think is looks illogical because the roofs aren't connected (like jal said):
![]() And yes that third window needs to go.

Well, they don't have to be connected but they should relate to each other.
The illocial thing I find is that this farmer would not have built the hayloft so close to the cottage because the space in between the too is too small for the animals to make it through and the people too. If you have a gable that connects its nice but thats a luxury. You have to imagine that the horses won't all enter thru the opening on the side. Even if they did the people will not and so the alley is too small to be logical. The third window is just a layout thing and the more I look at it the more it stands out : / EDIT: The windows on the hayloft are also too long. A horse may jump out. they haven't connection ? but can make - main problem is space I haven't so much, because in the left part of the work I want to have small free space... If I build connection between them than she will not be in the center of the main building /see current work/ because will need horizontal part of the bridje for better vision ... hehehe fun, but who will make entrance from the hayloft :) But maybe with this connection will be better because than two buildind will be as one :)
and why to remove 3 window and which 3 - maybe you talk for window which is near to the main building ... but if they haven't connection why to remove him ! BlackDragon they are 2 diferent buildings and have space between them ! ![]() Edited by zi-double - 12 January 2008 at 9:50pm |

hm I plan to obstruct that alley with garbage and green ... and where that horse will go when in back part of the houses have fence ! When I was in many old villages the building are so close one to another and have such cracks between them :) Ok I think that variant with the bridge is better :)
This is workshop that horse must be crazy to jump there - will take 2 or 4 pixels from the height of the windows, else idea was to be more brightly inside when somebody work there :) If I remove window than the wall will be empty ... but can stay with 2 windows and can build vertical wooden pillar between them I was think for that but until now I'm not try ... ![]() Ill try not to talk much. Shaded the sides, because your image is very flat lightsource. Everything recieves the same amount of light. So I made the left side darker, to help give more depth. Got rid of the harsh black/dark lines you had everywhere. Use those for separation between distinct objects and parts of the house. Not for every detail. Such as in the roof, and on the stone walls. didnt want to change the style too much though. Ill watch this thread. |

I keep seeing posts about lightsource over and over in zi's work.
Perhaps he has not made himself clear or maybe I just have it wrong. I understand from him that his process is to pixel without a lightsource until all the elements are laid out and the scene is constructed. Not a bad idea actually. I find myself changing shadowing a lot. zi, now that you have laid the scene out the loft to house is fine. It was an optical illlusion. |

thanks flaber I like it and will help :)
OK what I think ... 1st now between 2 brown type of colours have small difference I plan to change a bit and than will have to use some colours from 1 brown in another brown and than easy will make shadows and will keep high level of details 2nd I add and plan to add maybe 1 or 2 grey colours more for fence ets and than will use them for the wall to make depth better ... 3rd I plan to put creeping green somwhere on the wall and that is why maybe first must add them and than make depth because otherwise can put dark brown near to dark from the wall and will have problem . Now if I put creeping green on the left wall must make shadows with black because the wall going very dark Yep jalonso in some proces can make movement or turn of the building or add more elements or add more details or add more colours which can use to make shadows - that is why I prefer to make shadows and depth not so fast ... and I think that is easy to make light and than to make dark places - maybe I'm not right but ... else here is last update I think colours now are enough ... and I change saturation of 1st brown line now I can use to make better shadows ... maybe will need 1 red for clothes and 2 or 3 blue for water if I make windmill ... ![]() hehehe flaber but I haven't patience as Jal - joking ;) else I look close how you make eaves and I like them very much and maybe will use them !!! PS backgrounds are for my old works, just change colours - don't look them because want to make dynamic terrain - will see ... |

I agree that the boards are too thick and too wide.
Its too chunky of wood for me, but I wasnt sure on what exactly you were going for. Ill see how your next update goes. But maby ill help with that when I can. Im fairly busy at the moment, so giving an edit, might be difficult. I really really quite like the grass and the soil. The only thing that stands out to me, is perhaps better transition between the grass and the soil. Look like you layered the grass ontop, and used an eraser tool to show the soil through. Otherwise, excellent ground |

Yep, but was funny to make 2. if I'm not lazy and make mill 1 will go there ... maybe if I put stone wall will be screen a bit second bridge ... The question is, are the wall isn't very wide ... I can put ladder ets. and will be as castle wall, but I'm not shure is this good choice to finish right border ?

Here is idea for the stone wall - spaces between bulges in the upper part of the wall are too big and some soldier can climb from there heh, but think that in that variant looked more detailed !
Also repair the car and add more green on the tree which is as hedgehog :) Will repair green of him of course later on ... and change 1 yellow colour for the hay - Feron was right now look better.
