Strangely enough, I usually fail to make any progress when a piece gets to the point where I'm so stuck that I have to resort to wip-threadding. Owell, here I am again with a WIP I actually care about.

Two hours in so far, today's personal challenge is to document the piece well (save often, and just for kicks make a movie of it as well) and see how much of a bitch glass is to make.

I've got big plans for this piece, and I need your guyses help figuring this bit out. Then I've got some animating to do. Should be fun :)

Progresses:

The smiley face stays :(

Tree leaves are really nicely done. Bottle texture is good too.

Bottle does feel a little long to me though.

Here is a sample of a rotation of a cylinder similar to your bottle.

Took me a few secs, but I get what you're saying P_O

And Aleiav... O_O

Will make bottle shorter and construct the oval righter. Checkmark.

Well you didn't so I cried for days :(

Half hour ish update. Made the bottle smaller (though now that I look at it, not much smaller) and fixed up the bottom a lil (though it's still off) and realised it's gonna be a giant bitch to do without reference, so I need to drink a bottle of wine in a green bottle and lie it down in a forest in the fall. Pronto.

And it really trips me out that the brown squiggles in the shadow on the leaves-side of the bottle looks like I just took a pen and made jaggedy lines in brown, but really it's just a series of random brown pixels.

this is lookin' pretty sexy so far:O...yep I still think a tiny bit shorter...also it appears as if the top of the bottle is facing in the wrong direction slightly...seems like it should be a little more to the left

I can see that it's a bottle, but... it also looks like a telescope from this angle. Maybe a change of perspective is in order? Rotate a bottle a bit?

Here's a ref pic:

I plan to make it more transparent-looking than it currently is, which should fix the "I look like telescomp lol" problem. As for rotating the bottle, that sounds like a lot of work I dun really wanna do.

scamocore, you're right, the top of the bottle is wonked. I'll address that next update.

An' P_O, which one of us is the "hers?"

I agree with greenraven. It seems too long to be a bottle. I think you should shorten it a couple of pixels.

I feel like I'm just changing the perspective. Am I just changing the perspective?

Yes, you changed the perspective... but now it looks like a bell. I dunno, maybe it's just me.

I don't have access to my mathematic tools right now but if you like I can show how to draw this with a sort of projection system geometrically tomorrow.

I think the piece is going very good. Art is unlimited and never has been governed by physics or math. Only things left to do are more detail (possibly a teensy bit left from a label ripped off of the bottle), And a transperant-y look

I'll leave that notion to a 12 year old.

Tell that to Filippo Brunelleschi, the founder of perspective drawing. Tell that to Da Vinci who constructed fablous concepts and art. Your middle school art teacher is ignorant if he/she "taught" you this.

Sometimes you need to make a reference if you have a mathmatically definable shape. I took an average looking bottle model and forced it into a perspective projection.

I'm not saying that "no" art is definable by math. I'm saying that art is up to the imagination. It doesn't matter what you do with it. Some can be mathematic, some just don't have to be. Let's leave this decision to Saboteur.

PS: Look at Picasso. He sure as hell doesn't use math in most, if not all, of his pieces, and he has way more recognition than Filippo Brunelleschi the architect. Architecture has to be mathematical or your building going to crumble. And I have no art teacher because here we don't enter junior high school until grade eight.

Understand what you're saying Talos, but it seems obvious that Sab would prefer to make the image he's creating believable in that sense. He probably would have said otherwise if he was going in some other direction.

Yus. Though not following mathematics can leave the impression to be true, not following mathematics would leave the form false, which leads to not so much learning anything for sabby :(

I must learns perspective and scaling.

Thanks for the ref P_O, will come in greatly useful in the near future.
