![]() Allright guys. This is my attempt at AA and getting on level grounds with shades of a colour. I'm going horribly wrong somewhere with this... It's making me pull my hair, I really want to improve in pixel art but today I thought I'll take a step back and see if I can understand the concept of AA and shades instead of going straight into a piece of work, now I don't want you guys posting those awesome tutorials of AA, Shading, colours etc but I want to know where I'm going wrong... I just can't get to grips with it... So yeah Where am I going right and wrong? cheers guys! -Ati |

Even tough you don't want to, I still post one because it tells all you need.
![]() Use a color between the blue and the brown. Not a color that is even more different from brown, that will never blend! |

the background was originally white or transparent...
okay so i'm going to take your advice and change the background. bare with me. okay actually.. i'm fully aware of that... I do know about the blending and such but what I really needed to know was if I was actually using the right shades... Also can I ask someone to do me a big favour? I need someone to show me how it is done but by only using the shades I have set out (If the shades are correct even) I'm going to tackle this! -Ati Edited by Aeyon - 06 October 2008 at 11:22am |

The easiest colour to AA on, is a black circle to a white background.. It means you just need to make it inbetween, which is easier to idenitify ;P
Also, i wouldn't really choose a circle, to be honest.. An irregular shape is far more easier and useful. Edited by Quake - 06 October 2008 at 12:15pm |

I'd say that's pretty good. A bit over-AA in some places..
By the way, you don't need to AA every pixel. This causes it to look blurry and bulky, minimum is always better :P Other than that, i see no problem. I also love the AA on the Question mark, i think you've got it right there :P Hope i helped. yay another Uk citizen xD -Quake |

Lol, Scotland i presume?
And really, the values of the colours doesn't really matter, you just need to be lighter than the outline and starting to move towards the background colour. SO on that note, the colours you've chosen are perfect :P I'm from Midlands btw.. -Quake Edited by Quake - 06 October 2008 at 12:56pm |

Before you go ape sh*t on the AA listen up.
AA is only used when needed. You do not want to AA EVERY single outside pixel. This is important you have to look at a piece and see where needs AA. If you see jaggys erase them or AA them, curves are fun to AA just don't need to get every pixel on the way down. ![]() You could have wanted those jaggies though, iunno. Don't restrict yourself to single pixels, you can AA off an edge and if you do it well it works. Edited by Souly - 06 October 2008 at 1:10pm |
