Hello all,

I'm new to pixel art in general and this is my first post here.

I live in Tokyo, english is not my mother language and I work as a
crappy web designer.

(partly) following a guide I found the other day on the internet, I
made the images below.
Both in 16 colors -theoretically, hum.
I know it is not a good thing to start directly with characters instead
of making tiles etc, but I kind of felt more comfortable with a hand
drawn base so...

I suppose both images need a lot more work, so crits please!

(old edits...)
(re-re-edit: ok apparently it works if it's 1 image per post)

they are nice charicters the anotomy seems beasicly perfect and for
being new to pixel art they are great, i guess the hand drawn base has
allot to do with it, which isnt a bad thing.

a couple of weird things on the guy though. his left ankle (on our right)
looks a bit skinny and his left arm (on our right) seems to extend too
far before it gets to the elbow.

they both dont look all to stable in their stances, secondly, you should clean up your lines some more, thirdly, i dont see much hue variaton, which makes it a bit boring (aside from their rather blad designs - look how iconical the fighters from e.g. tekken are)

you got superd anatomy & stuffs though, it just looks somewhat plain

no idea lol js looked like a guy to me, i think the reason they look
unstable is because they are in motion... i might be wrong... and the
reason they look plain is cos thats how some anime is colourd

Your drawing skills are obviously very well developed... the positions and character style are great.

Some crits:  The darks on the interior lines could be lightened up a bit.  Adding one or two dark colors instead of black really goes a long way. The woman could use a highlight color on her shirt and skirt. The guys left forearm looks like the line should continue down into the bicep.

Thank you all for the great feedback!

Rifts> you are perfectly right about the arm and the ankle. I tried to
make them both look better.
snader>You are probably right about the lack of personality in those
characters... They definitely don't look particular enough for people
to remember -> they are too anecdotal. Thanks for pointing that out.
For now I tried to increase saturation a bit on some parts, and hue
variations too but it probably still is not enough.
jegHegy>You are right, the character is a female, not a male. She is
actually kind of an androgyneous boyish girl -that's a pretty poor
stereotype but heh, it's still more fun to draw girls, even if it is to
make them look like boys.
sedgemonkey>Thanks for the good crits. Not sure to understand
exactly what you mean when you say that the interior lines should be
a dark color but not black. I tried something in the new version
below... I'd be glad if you could tell me more about that.
About the highlight color on the skirt/shirt of the woman, I used one
at first, but ended up exceeding the 16 colors limit I fixed myself. I'll
be trying to fix that in the next few hours.

Those look great!  At the moment, the one on the left has a few little ticks.  His left arm sort of look like a snake with a rat in its belly.  It is sort of thin coming out of the shoulder, then there is a bulge at the elbow connecting to a tiny wrist.  This one I think you need to work on the most with the shading and anatomy.  The second one looks great as well,  but her wristband looks a bit flat.  I am excited to see them finished!
