Nice Work! although you should post it in the original post of the challenge. what bothers me is that the ground isn't affected by the explosion/whatever it is. here's a quick edit:

Thanks! And in the challnge thread it also states you can post it in the wip forum, because not everyone views the thread. Edited by minipuck - 29 June 2009 at 7:09am |

no problem, and another thing i noticed, the tree isn't green and brown, instead it's black, any particular reasons why?

Well i figured, because of the lack of lighting(other then the misterious glow, it's kinda dark), there would be hardly or no(i chose no) other light source, and because of the color of the light source, i also gave the tree that color.
i might try and give it some color later on tho, to see what it does. + the rules state you need pure black and white in it. Edited by minipuck - 29 June 2009 at 7:25am |

Your fade from green to blue is rather sharp, but you can easily fix that.
The blue that hits the green and the next shade of blue after it are very close. Mix the green and that blue it's touching together. It'll ease up the gradient. :3 |

I like the top one - mainly because of the style you used...I also like the fact that you have the tree as a sillhouette, rendering it black for all intents and purposes as, as you said, there is only one light source. It makes sense...
As for suggestions...If you particularly like the shape of the tree it's cool, but have you considered another shape? We have really cool, flat topped thorn trees here in darkest africa that would actualy fit in nicely with your theme...may want to google some...
Otherwise - I love it!

other people have adviced me to not use the top one, because it's a reflection rather then light on the ground, it's more like something you would have in water.

I can see how they can get to that conclusion - but VISUALLY it is really beautiful - it has a kind of Van Gogh feel to it (bottom left area) - looks like impasto.
Your choice - I still like
![]() And PS: There's no rule that says "no reflections allowed" ![]() Edited by Celri - 30 June 2009 at 1:47am |

I think the third one ""with dithering"" would look good too.

i've tested the lighting with shining with my desk lamp at the edge of my desk over the desk, and i had to conclude that the 3rd one is most accurate, atleast after i put in a few changes.

That was me going retarded from too little sleep..
I was looking at the wips and i ended up on this topic, then i remembered that i had some of my picture for the weekly challenge done and decided to post it on the challenge topic but when i opened the topic i tarded out and wrote my post in the wrong window...... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ok here i did a small color edit to show you some thing I think is odd. ![]() All I did is change the colors to have more even contrast across the pallet. Because when i was looking at your colors i noticed that the colors in 1 have more contrast then the colors in two so i messed with it to make the colors all have about the same amount of contrast. I hardly did a satisfactory job in the edit but you get the general idea of what I'm trying to say. Edited by God_Is_Evil - 30 June 2009 at 12:03pm |

that shadow needs to extend way further. the lower your lightsource the longer your shadows. your lightsource is at the horizon, wich basically means you can safely use line-perspective for your shadow (making it extend from it's point of origin (that... tree?) to probably the outside of your canvas). the funny thing is that you do this right with the bushes/rocks, where the shadow extends three times as much as the actual object. however for added drama (and perhaps even realism) i would extend those shadows aswel.
Edit: ![]() and even now i have the feeling of being too conservative. |

That elongated shadow really enhances the dramatic atmosphere - it makes the light source seem more mysterious...good advice!
