This thread is for pixels which you'd consider too simple for a gallery - pieces which can be fit in 32x32 block. The trick is just to pixel everyday. 32x32 block takes affordable amount of time (5 - 30 minutes compared to hours for regular gallery pieces) and the canvas is enough to show some craftsmanship and draw anything.

I'll start with a 1-bit car which could be at home in any 70's game. 6 minutes.

I'm not 100% sure I completely understand this thread. Do you want people to make 32x32 pixel art every day and post it here? I think it would be better if it were some personal exersise among PJ members to do this every day for a specific amount of time, say, a month or something.

Maybe have people sign up to this before a certain date, and then all of those members would be a part of the 32x32 pixel art club and would have to make something everyday for a month, under 30 mins and 32x32. etc...
</rambling>

Anyway, I made a pack of cards in 30 mins:

Reference: Pack of cards on my desk. This is an image from the internet of the same brand of cards.

The main thing is to make an outlet for those who want to make pixelart more constant habit. It was said about many arts (music, drawing, sports) that training 15 minutes a day is better than several hours a week. And posting it on forums and see what others are doing with the medium could be motivation to stay on the course.

>and would have to make something everyday for a month, under 30 mins and 32x32. etc...

Maybe we can set some time limit like mentioned 15 minutes so that training of speed would be included.

Highlighter in 30 mins.

Used IRL reference. Online image of similar object. Mine iseems to be more transparent than that image though.

Yes, I know it hasn't been a day yet >P

That's it - we need to set some deadline! Let's say 15 minutes for an image - and then, whatever state it is, it should be considered finished. With more time it becomes over-rendering - after all, 15 minutes is 0.8 of a second for a single pixel out of 1024 - a lot of time!

Yeah, it's actually a .png file.  If necessary, just save and rename it.

How much time it took?
Around 15-20 minutes.

You can work for hours on 32x32 pieces if you want.
Yeah, but then it may as well be a gallery piece.  This challenge seems more like an exercise for practice.

---

Anyway,

- My entry for today.  Took around maybe 30 minutes.  No reference used (though I did draw this character before based on a reference).

When image is not showing, you can't save it. Maybe I'm the last one still using IE, but why not to use some universal variant?

15 mins. I decided not to do another object sitting on my desk. The only reason I was doing a pack of cards and a highlighter is because I misinterpreted the topic as 'everyday object' creativity thread. -__-

- Ra's Al Ghul from the Batman franchise.  I was sorely lacking inspiration the day before, and ridiculously sleepy yesterday (I started this yesterday) which is why I haven't been keeping myself challenged, but it's probably a good thing I didn't try to practice yesterday since only perfect practice makes perfect.

Around 30-40 minutes, including what I began yesterday.  Reference: http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/7608/dcdrasalghul.jpg

Also, trying tinypic again.  Just learned that I can change the file extension of the URL to .png and it'll still work.

Had to try this: very, very small indeed...

1: I drove 600 km yesterday, saw pixels everywhere! I'll drive them again tomorrow... :(
15-20 min, 13 colors.

Two more today, since I won't be able to do more for a few days!
2: more road stuff, not good; >30min, 20 colors!
3: manhole from my window, 20 min, 12 colors.

I suggest we edit our posts instead of making a new one each 'day'.
And since it's a collab, I just put them all together. :) (an anim might be better, though: next time!)
(edit: we'd soon run into the 256 colors max: no anim)

My mind sees it as having his other arm behind his back, because of his general pose.

@Manu - I love your second image - my favourite piece out of this project so far.

@AB - maybe update the first post of this thread with everyone's images.

@Ska - You should make more stuff for this =/

edit: XD I decided to see what I could make in exactly 5 mins:

XD

Unfortunately it will be too hard to keep track of wether there is something new going on in this thread or not. Better to make it all continual.

It would be hard to maintain and not much point in it anyway as every piece benefits from commentary of it's author. Now there's more pics than talk about them, so picking them out and putting in a post is not necessary, - one can easily find them briefly looking at the thread.

But maybe if we hit a certain NUMBER?!..

Not like I purposely took long.  I just kept going until I thought it looked decent enough, so that I wouldn't have to go back to it after uploading and spend more time anyway.  Plus the time I spent yesterday was only about three to five minutes at most which was drawing guidelines.

@ska: what? But it's bad! well at least not what I wanted... It's almost unreadable, the truck is totally out of persp (from a car's point of view). I wouldn't have uploaded it if it wasn't precisely the point of this thread... ;-)
And, your 5' were well used!

@AB: well, if I did it again in a shorter time, it still would benefit from the 1st attempt, so that would make it closer to 1 hr I guess!
Your Swinging London is my fav, perfectly readable even without zooming.

Don't know if it is readable, so not posting the name, I'll let you judge what happening here and if it understandable.

I think that technique will work better if you will darken or brighten whole letters instead of their parts - in crowdy places it is hard to tell which letter's part you looking at and it hinders readability. Whole letters are better. I may be wrong, but give it a try.

@AB: neither! I see stuff as I drive then sketch them when I get a chance to stop! Not today's though, this one is just without a ref, as well as the watertower.
I did sketch while driving too, when I was caught in a 1 hr traffic jam last Monday. Coming soon!

#10, 11, 12: an old wooden barn, the roofs from my window, a city view (Lyon). About 15-20' each, 15+/-2 colors.
My plan so far is to make 32 of them.

@ Skeddles: great!

Not too difficult with a ref! 15', 5 colors.

I tried to do one yesterday, but it was coming out terrible so I stopped. Here's today's.

I like the idea of making 32 of them, that'll be my goal. Because 1024 is way too many. It would take years, and that's IF you were amazing enough to do one everyday. Well maybe it'll happen someday.

But for now, we could aim for 1024 as a group! Who ever wants to compile them, it'd be cool if you did 32 tiles across.
