What exactly do you mean by a mech? Like, any kind of robot? Some inspiration photos would be very helpful.

Did you click the link?

Perhaps a simple way of thinking of it is a vehicle with legs.

A mech is essentially just a huge robot that has a way of getting controlled, usually a seat in it's head.

Could be anything from four legs to one wheel.

Lizard is indeed correct.

Tachikoma's are four-legged. And that's just example 1. Clarify "mech" or we're going to have yet another challenge where people are confused.

"Perhaps a simple way of thinking of it is a vehicle with legs."

Anyway I guess I could clarify further. My understanding of what a mech is, is any vehicle that a person controls in a similar way that one would fly a plane or drive a car. ie. the person controls the vehicle from inside a cockpit (or similar). The difference between a mech and other vehicles is that mechs have legs and not wheels or wings etc... yes any amount of legs will be fine.

Greenraven, you're gonna enter this week, right? :P

member_profile.asp?PF=26760&FID=1 - rod750 - You can only submit completely new entries.  I'm quite sure you can't submit stuff you started before the challenge.  Unless I misunderstood your comment.

I know what a mech looks like, but can we go creative and stuff and make something that looks more like an original alien-ish mech?

Are SD (super-deformed) mechs permitted?

This entails that some proportions are off so that more detailing can be done on the mech's head or body, and less details on its appendages.

Animation line-art thus far.  Thought I would create a mech worthy of the http://pixeljoint.com/pixelart/51908.htm - hillbilly sprite I just completed a walk cycle for a day or two before this challenge went up!

Keep working on it anyway and submit separately, since it's still awesome.

@StickyTape, that looks good. If you still wanted to enter, you could resize it with nearest-neighbour filtering + a bit of clean up.

@Alcheim, if I understand you correctly then yes, that would be ok.

@Robinhood, as long as it looks recognisable as a mech, you can definitely be creative, like StickyTape has done for example.

Hi I am new here, I posted a piece for this challenge on my galery here but no idea if I can or how to directly link it here, either way, if anyone can tell me I am thankful.

For now, there goes my photobucket link:

Posted By: Argyle
Date Posted: 15 April 2010 at 11:11am
@Lawrence - I considered it when I first saw the restriction, but decided against it.  If anything I'll make a new mech.  =)

Shaded it a lot more.  My main problem with it now is the feet.  They're out of perspective I've come to reallize, but that's ok!  Now that the animation is solid, I was planning on changing what was attached to the bottom of each 2x4 plank to make it more fun.  Like a bunch of appliances with cords flying everywhere on one, a sandbag or a sideways tire on another, who knows, I'll think of something.  Also gonna add more interesting things flopping around on the whole of the vehicle as well.  Maybe have the freezer door fly open for a few loops.

Posted By: Pickles
Date Posted: 15 April 2010 at 1:44pm
@StickyTape

WOW... The pallete you're using is just amazing... luvd it... keep the good work... The whole work is very nice...

I noticed that the chair up there jump a little at a certain moment, I'd never sit in it, surely... e.e

@Clest

I didn't understand your question, but well, i'm gonna explain what i understood bout challenges:

- You can post here your WIP (Work in Progress) or the final work in order to share ideas and get suggestions. (You can host your work at Photobucket, as I can see you know how to do that)

- After you finished your work you must send it by the pixeljoint site to your gallery and in the sending form you have to check the "Submit to weekly challenge" checkbox, then it's sent.

Hope it helps

Hi, all--I'm a new member contributing for the first time.  Let the merciless hazing commence.

I started this before realizing there was a size restriction, so no biscuit for me.

This is of course the fearsome DethBUN 5000, a bunniform walker whose chief military use is stomping the guts out of defenseless compact cars.  ("DethBUN" should have umlauts on all the vowels and most of the consonants, but I can never remember how to do that so you'll have to use your imagination.)

It's a bit rough--I'll post a cleaned-up-and-maybe-even-colored version, if I can get one done before the week is out.

Very nice drawing ^^-

I've got an idea: you can make the right button be pushed down and as the toast gets hidden the legs show up, then the toaster walks. After that the legs are hidden again as its face shows up, so that the toaster can watch the way it's walking.

Here's my mech, I spent a few days on him and I'm pretty happy with a result, myself being only being a beginner. I couldn't get the background to be transparent, as I couldn't find a good PNG animator. A link to one would be much appreciated. Thanks.

EDIT: Okay, fixed the background after many hours of hard work. Hold your applause. xD

EDIT: Because I now know the definition of a mech, I'm currently editing mine and making it more isometric and will keep working until the contest is over.

Is it that you can't save the .png as transparent or is it the animation making the bg black?  If it's the animation then save all your files as .png and upload then upload the first to http://iaza.com/ - iaza.com and then go to the animate thing.  Upload all the .pngs in order, set your settings and upload 'em.  I'm not sure about you, but on iaza, it only gets me 10 or 100 fps for me, so then you can upload the saved gif from iaza to http://picasion.com/ - Picasion and then select your desired fram rate, and for size, enter the width of the pixel.
If it's saving the file as a .png that's making the background black, then you should switch programs.

Well, I've been working really hard these last few days, tweaking and tweaking and tweaking and I think I'm finally done with my mech. I was told on another section of the forum that my mech wasn't eligible for the contest because it didn't have a cockpit. I added one now, and so if there's anything else wrong with it, please tell me now, as there is still a small bit of time left in the contest that I can fix it. I don't know if there's someone who decides if a piece is accepted into the contest or not, but if there is, please give me an ok so I don't have to refresh this page every 5 seconds. lol Otherwise I'm pretty much done. Enjoy!

>I feel sorry for the pilot

The DethBun 5000 comes equipped with antigravity inertial suppressor, uh, thingies.  Makes for a very smooth ride.  Also, it's got roll bars.  The pilot is actually relaxing in comfort and style.  Relative comfort and style, anyway.   Relative to the driver of the stomped-on car...

Okay, here's a more polished version of the DethBun 5000.  The pilot is wreaking a terrible vengeance upon the drivers of those orange cars, who probably deserve it just for their poor color sense, and who apparently have their own lane on this freeway.  That's all the information that's available at this time.

I looked and my sprite wasn't there to vote for. I followed all of the rules, spent 30+ hours on my sprite, and even asked that if there's anything still wrong with it for someone to tell me and no one did! Help! All I wanted was a participation ribbon.

EDIT: I looked and realize now that I forgot to submit my entry and that putting it here doesn't mean it's officially entered. This is my first contest so I didn't realize. Please could you put it in for voting just this once, it probably wouldn't come in one of the top three places at this point or at all but I really want that participation ribbon. Thanks.

I'm sure they would, but unfortunately it isn't possible to add an entry retroactively due to the way the site is programmed. We all know the time and effort you put in, so don't sweat the lack of ribbon. It's really about getting excited about pixelart, in the end.
My sympathies, though, that is frustrating.  Good thing there is always the next one!

Well is there a way to give a participation ribbon after voting is over? I know I wouldn't win anyway so it really doesn't matter if I'm up for voting. Or would it go against the programming to give ribbons to people who weren't in voting. lol
