Well as the title suggests this is my attempt for the challenge.
I tried to keep the colour count low and I wanted to make it so no 'single' pixels existed. (each pixel connects to at least one other of the same colour)

This was my first attempt.

This is an Edit with eyes as I gave up trying to turn the orb into an eye.
Are the eye's readable?

For some clarification it's suppose to look similar to an arm but with a mouth.
I thought about animating but I don't have a (stop motion) animation program.

All crits welcome!

Ps I only really started pixel art roughly 9 months ago.

Looking good so far. As for the eye, have you tried a snake slit-like eye?

and for animation I HIGHLY suggest jasc animation shop...

Looks nice. Too bad about the orb eye.
Anyway, maybe an eyeless big mouthed thing is scarier.

Perspective issue: the bottom looks more top-down than the hand.
The bottom could also be a cleaner shape.

Light source(s): looks like there are 2, from the top on the orb and hand, from below on the bottom. Make them a different color?

It's all meant to be lit from above, the light on the top of the mouth and eye's is supposed to show it protruding outward.
Maybe I should use the darker colours a bit more where the features don't stick out. That may hopefully destroy the look of two light sources.

The perspective I actually notice now that you pointed that out. Don't know why I didn't see it in the first place. When you say cleaner you mean less jaggy or less organic and more simple shaped? Or both?

I might enlarge the mouth then because scary is sort of what I was aiming for. (too many cute entries from what I've seen)
Hmmm I actually didn't think about doing a vertical slit pupil. Duno why but I kept trying to go a circular shape and that usually just threw off the slimy feel or ruined it completely.
I got Jasc Animatin shop 3 now but it alters colours. Might just keep it stationary for now as I don't really have the skill to get it animated in two half days.

Oh and thanks heaps for replies.

Quick update:

Any better or is it worse?

I like it a lot so far! Looks much better with the orb as the eye.

Also, you may not like this suggestion: You could flip the hand so we're seeing the palm/inside it. I think it would be more aesthetically pleasing (from a balancing-an-eyeball-in-your-hand perspective) if it were so.

I had thought about that but I wanted the fingers to look like some sort of psuedo-crown.

The eye is actually meant to look like it's floating rather than balancing.

The base still irritates me for some reason.
