Been working on the elephant! :)
Never made a proper iso piece before, so it may look kinda weird.

I've never really made an iso sprite before, so does this count as iso?

Ah! I was also making an iso-boar. And an iso-walrus :)
Tusk force unite! :)
Mine is kinda blocky, like that elephant, tho :P

Mrmo, just keep i mind you need all three on the canvas.

Yup, got that covered :)
The elephant is the biggest of the three anyways :)

An opinions? Will they need a black outline or something to look right on different background colors?

They can be abstract, but so far anyone could recognize what it is?

dpixel: I like them, yeah, they are a bit hard to see (dark background) but in this scenario, that's my problem. I don't think they should have an outline.

What? Awesome? But, I've made an actual lame box elephant! :P

There is a big difference between a box elephant and a LAME box elephant, I guess you made a box one :)

I could always cut off one of its legs! I guess that would actually make it lame :P
Anyways, I've almost completed a friend of his:
I plan on 'cheating', that is, making some sort of background around these guys to AA into, but still keeping them separated by transparency ;P

Is this ok? I'd like to do this too.

Nothing in the rules says otherwise :P

True. I guess I was under the impression it was just supposed to be sprites.
EDIT:
Trying to keep all the animals in scale to each other. Made the giraffe larger so the smaller ones will be easier to recognize. Still a lot of clean up to do.

God, are these things even isometric? -_-' I haven't got a clue what I'm doing...

No. They aren't.
Try drawing them in a iso grid. Like this update:

Thanks for showing me those, dPixel. I think I'll just skip this week's challenge since I don't like it much, I don't know how to do it well, and I'll be at an anime convention for the weekend.

I'm sensing a lack of interest in this challenge compared to some of the others. Oh well. I've narrowed it down to Giraffe, Cape Buffalo, and Zebra.

Nice job dpixel. The rotation of the giraffes neck is hard to read. It creates an optical illusion where, at first glance, I am not sure what direction the giraffe is standing.

ya :) its a really cool optical illusion :D

Ha ha. Yeah, I'm aware of the optical illusion. I have to research some more references. Could just be the way the spots line up. Or maybe the neck would have some sort of bend. Not sure yet. Thanks for the comments.

Okay im a little unsure because its my first time doing iso. Is this tiger isometric art? Nobody answered me about my boar either
|
Posted By: dpixel
Date Posted: 13 July 2011 at 4:44pm
Ixayou, Looks iso to me. Although the tail looks slightly out of perspective or it could be just the way it's swinging it. If the tail was at rest, it would be a little more out of view. Nice job though. And your boar looks great.
EDIT: How can I get this to look good on different themes? I hate the way it looks on dark ones.

I 'cheated', in the sense that the animals are fully enclosed within their respective backgrounds :)
Submitted my piece some time ago, off to sleep now ;P
Also, nice animals, dpixel! I'm not too sure about that sandy yellow ground, as it really messes things up on dark backgrounds O_o

I see Mrmo Tarius' entry is already submitted. I did not add it earlier because it seems to have some BG use as does dpixels'. Now I'm confuserated :/
Will this week's challenger define and post the 'transparency' rule for all to be clear on? Does is mean some transparency or total transparency around the animals?

I hope it's ok. I can't get mine to look good otherwise.

That's what I thought the challenge was supposed to be :/ Lets see what this week's challenger opines.

Mrmo Tarius made a good point about 'Nothing in the rules say otherwise'. And usually it would say sprite(s), but fair enough. I hope it's ok, since it's all the entries so far. Including the smaller one in the queue.

The spirit of the challenge was pretty obvious in my mind - pixel 3 isometric animal sprites, on a transparent canvas. Same goes for the animation, I think the idea was probably to have some subtleish idle animation or something. I'm definitely not saying that people shouldn't think outside the box, but finding loopholes isn't always a good thing.
dpixel's is more okay imo, though still kinda iffy. A sensible dark shadow would be better anyway imo :L

"Separated by transparency" does not mean to "have absolutely no background". No loopholes here, no implied meanings, just using logic :P
I don't really think the rules should be revised like 5 days after the challenge was posted, tho :/

I must agree that its too late now to revise the fine print of transparency. I can see how others saw their way around it but then again it did read clear to me and was just asking so I know when I'm Modding the queue. Guess I will just look for some transparency unless I'm told otherwise. Good luck all :)
