Haha, nice job Tarius :) I like your color choices again :) Why not adding some planets to the BG?

Is the ship casting a shadow...um...on space?
Erm, anyway, I would make the background a lot darker and cluster the stars a bit more.

32 colors? This will produce much interesting pieces. I actually had a reference for this one, but Tarius pretty much used it. Poke an interest? The Lost Vikings.
Not too bad, there may be too much references for space travel and vidjeo games.

I tried that a few years ago, I couldn't bear it. Alot like many nostalgia vidjeo-games, the experience is just not the same, also for some reason it lagged like hell.
P.S: I'd say you need a thruster in your piece, Tarius, even though it's a WIP it sure will explain that logic defying blue glow.

MAN! You are getting GOOD! Every one of your works is well thought out and your colors are amazing. I think you may be on your way to getting featured......maybe....i hope so.

Gonna maybe try for some ~13th century Inquisitiony stuff. Is something like an actual moon landing allowed?

By the wiki definition of "Space Exploration": yes. Although our host can be more specific.
P.S: Can our output wield multiple panels? Like a comics, or a time-line?

I think it looks more like the Washington Monument, but eh.
... here's mine so far. I need to finish a few things... I want another guy working on the ship, and then some animation for it also...

I could beraly see the rocketship and could not understand how is this space-related, perhaps his on a green planet alas the moon is in the horizon. Then it hit me, that the hut waaaaay behind is the source of attention; Only it was hard to give it any waaay back there.
I can hardly see you getting votes when the main concept of the challange being in the background, unless you're willing to animate it.

Then perhaps I need to make it look more like a rocket ship To draw attention to it. Or bring it into the foreground a bit more.
And yes I am willing to animate it ("some animation for it also").

Btw, how did he get there? with the power of faith? That would be rather amusing to visualize.
P.S: I adore your cloth shading, good work.
Edit :
I
was going here for a planet, and got caught with highlightning it's
inner-rings too much and ended up with a snail's shell; later on just
went with it. And I think I overdid the highlight dithering.

Well, if I remember right, the Washington Monument is a copy of an egyptian obelisk. Besides, I'll be adding other things and changing stuff around before I start working on the rest of the picture.
Sumyung- really noisy, and I agree with previous comments. Also, the man appears to be working by the light of the moon; where's his shadow?
Jeremy- I don't like the clouds on the earth. I agree with Trojan's comments.
Trojan- It's really pretty, but I'm not sure what it is. What culture were you doing again?

I decided I will going for the crusaders, like Jeremy (semi-important note: I ripped the idea of my VoIP chumps).
While doodling, I thought to myself: "Hey, if I'm going to illustrate the crusader's hypothetical influence over the galaxy, I should do it with their intake of reality and the world" :

~WIP (Having some issue with the water transition, probably will alter the pallete)
A flat planet. Addin' some humor. I'm not sure if they really believed, or even had any intake on the world's shape at all at the time, that the world has an "end", usually is illustrated as an endless waterfall; although I am quite positive I am getting mixed up with the Viking culture.
The idea in this image is to draw chibi characters of each planet: one crusader launched from a catapault, and one jello-like alien. (I'm sure this sort of form has a name, anyone?)
P.S: Yes, that pallete is completly random and probably ineffecient. Tried to make a dynamic-pallete with multiple colors.
@Chibiwing That thing was supposed to be a planet and a practice for dithering. as I said I got carried away with the shading. It started to look like a 'Snail's Shell' so I just went with it and shared it.

Can it be "A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away"?
I mean Star Wars

Reiterating TrojanMonkeys comment that got no reply cos I've been wondering too, can we use multiple panels (separated by transparency or black) to lay it out as a comic sequence? So each individual panel is within the 200 by 200px limit but the piece overall is larger? If not it can be animated to transition between panels..

The size limit is the size limit. I don't see why you couldn't animate between images though.

Marco Polo goes from china to the moon. I know how didn't sail to China and so there wouldn't have been a european ship there for him to take skyward, but that's just one of many details I'm thinking about how to handle right now.

Romans on the Mars, wip. reference: http://www.abigailryder.com/buml0r/Settlers/Settlers2-Box.jpg Is idea of the picture OK?

Some things I fixed (hopefully) :
- The spaceship grabs more attention and looks like a spaceship.
- Some shadows have been... randomly patched together.
- Some noise creating objects have been taken out.
- Look! A random red star! And the guy has legs

Some things that still need done:
- Animation: I want the guy to draw some "equations" on the "chalkboard"
- Grass or w/e... and lots of it. Something needs to add detail to the ground -.-
So... ya took me 3 days to do that. 2.9 of them spent creating the glass hole on the spaceship. _________________________________________________________
EDIT:
<---- I really like the shading on those rocks

In the year 1945 (World War 2) there was no costume for space exploration. As the diving suit that is portrayed isolates the pressure in the vacuum of space, it is adequate enough to walk on the moon He is handling the pump because I want to portray American soldiers by bombing Japan with atomic bombs.

Still haven't finished mine, specially because Ms-paint is going berskerk on me. I think I'll just retreat to Photoshop. Huh, never thought I'd say that.

This is hardly what I sought for. It looks so empty, and my pallet is crap. I guess I should've done something simple like a single object, as; a ship.
*Sigh*, still needs to add stars, light source (sun), etc. Anyone perhaps has any brilliant ideas for this lost cause?

using mspaint is fine if you like willingly sacrficing large amounts of your time due to its lack of shortcuts and proper palette management.
do yourself a favor and switch to grafx2. it's free and much more user-friendly than ms paint.
would crit the piece but I can't tell what's going on. is this a cohesive image or just random objects to be used in a later image? I see a flat earth, mars, and some random templar gear that exist on the same canvas but don't seems to exist in a particular place.

Well I guess I am done, still got 24 hours to give it a last go before it's called complete. This is definetly not going to win me anything, at least I gave it a go. I suck hard at planning these things.

Any tips / C&C would be helpful.

@cure i was not aware that ms paint was such a waste of time! i downloaded garfx2 and was messing around in it to try and learn it and it is a bit hard to learn. I looked for a tutorial and couldn't find one. could you recommended one (or make one) that we all could watch or read?
