My first time entering a weekly contest here on PJ
This is what I have so far. I thought I'd go with the apple team and maybe a young Jobs? :)
Cloudy dreams~

@Elk: I don't think so too, because width and height is especially given this time with brackets.
rough as hell, but the sh*tty colors come out better than I thought the motive should be something which has to do with an apple =)

I was wondering, Is it worth to change?

|
Posted By: surt
Date Posted: 11 October 2011 at 3:40pm
Djinni: The iPixel Nano doesn't look significant enough a part of the image for my liking. Maybe something in between the two?
Trust Apple to take a voxel and label it a pixel so that from now on every trendy git will call voxel pixel and the term pixel will become meaningless.
And no doubt they'll patent the pixel and the voxel and start suing anyone who uses pixels in their art or hardware and anyone uses the term pixel except to refer to their device and anyone who develops a product in any way vaguely similar so hexels and texels are out too.

So should I change to it ( v ) in order to not mistake pixels with voxels?

[edit]
If so, what about this?

I liked the pixel in 3d better, even though technically it's a voxel.

|

@jinn, I thought the big pixel was great but the newest flickering one is even better.
E: New version is better because he looks less 'ill'. Even though the face wasn't right before it still clearly read Steve Jobs to me.

The shading is weird, I don't really see Steve Jobs in your drawing of him, and the CD makes his hand look REALLY big. Try fixing all of those issues.

It's not supposed to be Steve Jobs. At least the rules don't say so.

overworked the colors, special thanks to Manupix for his very good advice and I changed the complete anatomy of the woman. Also the overall perspective should be now a bit nicer than before.
@Arnaldo: try to make the elbow like an elbow and give the limb an crack, that should help. Also the lower arm is a touch to long.
|

@Cyangmou: The colours are a big improvement. I'm not sure about the clouds though. Everything else is so crisp and clearly defined, but the clouds just melt into the sky. Also, why are the clouds brighter underneath? Looking at the way you've shaded the tree, the grass and the characters, it doesn't look like the sun is setting.
@Arnaldo: I think the hair should be broken down into smaller "chunks", curls or locks of hair, if you will. I also think you should look at the proportions of the upper body, such as by creating a clear elbow joint that connects (and separates) the upper and lower arm. Right now, the entire arm is just a curve.

But sadly it seems I won't have the time to finish it this week. Well, I had my fun with it, and who knows, maybe I'll do finish it after the challenge.

Might actually participate in this one, at least if I gain more artistic direction. I think there's a pretty heavy Mrmo Tarius influence going on.

You are new to PJ and pixelart so don't be hurt by this. Learn from it.
Pixelart in a pixelart site requires a certain level of pixel precision and control you have yet to master. This is just about practicing and working at it and you'll soon get it.
This forum is for help to those who wish to help themselves so take advantage of this.

It is a palette challenge not an apple challenge. Concentrate on challenging yourself by using colors as a directive. These colors are tough to work with so force it. Even tho most entries seem to have taken 'apple' literally this challenge does not have to have an apple company related theme at all.

Now that I'm FINALLY done with dealing with school for now, I'll join this. I was thinking drawing the first Mac ever released and animating some phrases coming on the screen. Then, below that, the newest Macbook with "RIP Steve Jobs" appearing on the screen. I'm not so sure how smooth I can make the fading text since messing with the opacity will make colors not on the palette, but I'll do my best.

I was thinking. The dimensions for an ipad are 9.56 x 7.47 in. I asked mspaint and it said that is about 914 x 717 pixels. So the hieght is roughly 1.27 times larger than the width.
Your ipad is 109x130 pixels. To get the dimensions correct, you should use 102 x 130 or 109 x 138.
I'll leave the bezel width as an excercise.

I finished the line art to the first Mac. Give me any feedback as to how the general outline of it can be better. I'm doing the line art first since I'm so unfamiliar with drawing computers in general.
I moved the sides and top one pixel out so the indent to the screen would come out more.

Again, Anything I can do to make it more interesting? Also, the shading on the cloud....
|
Posted By: CELS
Date Posted: 15 October 2011 at 12:58pm
Surt had a great idea, which would definitely make it more interesting. Beyond that, I would say... - Maybe create more of a background? Right now it's very flat, with a foreground and a background. - The asteroid is very dark. It looks like it's supposed to be casting a strong light against the cloud and ground, but that doesn't seem possible since it's just brown and dark purple. - Use more colours to give the dinosaur and the ground more depth. It's a limited palette, but I don't think you've used its full potential yet. Look at some of the other work in this thread, and don't be afraid to experiment with colors like others have.
|
Posted By: JeffPNO
Date Posted: 15 October 2011 at 1:35pm
Yeah, I agree. I'm actually experimenting with Surt's suggestion right now.
And thank you for the suggestions. I was thinking about making some sort of background, but haven't gotten around to it yet. As for the meteor, I played with different colours for quite a while, but nothing seemed to look right. The orange/brown & Purple was the best looking, to me.

I'm not generally a fan of abstract art, but you should be pleased with creating something unique. I think this is something a lot of artists on here would appreciate. This reminds me of one of my favourite artists, Wayne Barlowe, who is known for his creative designs. Like you, he tends not to plan out things in detail from the start, and just lets his "brushes do the thinking".

Wow, so it's already 25 hours before the deadline, and I only have the line art for one computer done because I've been so damn busy. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to gut this down to something a little bit more simple. I guess a good background and a few meaningful things about Jobs with the fading text and whatnot.

you need to use the palette provided for the challenge.
using references? the penguin should have a much smaller beak and head, and lower eyes. looks kinda like a dinosaur atm.
make sure to use a reference on the toilet as well the rim should be much narrower, more of an oval than a wide circle. also seems you haven't decided how the tank of the toilet will connect to the bowl.
