Erm, I've only watched the first ten or so episodes of One Piece, so I wouldn't really know :)

Shadows need some retouching, but I think I'm more or less done...? It's suppose to be viewed on the grey default background, looks ugly on white unfortunitly... :(

@Chibiwing - scatter the highlights more throughout the hair. @Mrmo - For your second guy - the face is looking great, but the hair is very lacking. I know it sounds like a bit of a cop out, but perhaps try making his hair a solid colour. ------------- |

@skamocore, that's because I haven't really worked on the hair yet :D expect an updaet :)
@chibiwing, much better, you can also scatter some 'middle' tone throughout the 'shadow' tone, too. Makes it look more 3d and less flat :) Also, regarding contrast, you could use different color ramps for the hair and the face! Or alternatively, you could hueshift the highlights (or shadows) (or both). |

This is a bit rough but taking shape. Does an Afro need to be round? I think he's looking more like Mozart Elvis - needs a white fro and a piano maybe... Headband and round fro I reckon.

I was trying to solve the shading problem of shirt and hair. The hair need to be look more like afro than simple.

@offwhite I'm no expert at animation but a jiggle might help with the hair moving a frame behind the base as it catches up ie when the body goes up the fro goes down and vice versa. And / Or maybe moving the texture on the hair up and down so it looks like it is changing shape / coming forward... Hairy food. Mmm no.
@ photocopier thats a cool cat with a big hair ball. Did you consider having the ears popping out the top of the fro? |

A little progress. Still plenty of cleanup to be done.
@Herondetsu: The afro doesn't really read as an afro to me other than the shape. You might want to consider giving it some texture or something to help clarify that it's an afro and not a smooth hat of some kind. :) @Alex: Looks great! @TGK: I'm having a bit of trouble discerning your lightsource. Right now it seems like it comes from immediately behind and slightly above the character? @photocopier: Guitar-strumming 'Fro-Kitty? Awesome! The only nitpick I have is that it seems like the cat's wearing an afro wig, rather than the afro actually growing out if its head. Of course if that's the impression you're aiming for, the comment is irrelevant. ;) |

@ offwhite - nice muff bounce. I tend to agree that it is getting a bit busy with the lasers and the strobe. Maybe look towards Saturady night fever - a glowing 70's disco floor or dullish light beams cutting the smoke in the background. Or maybe on oven theme (fire in the background). Meh, Maybe this would be too busy too...
 to animate or not to animate? Going the dirty fro.  Run out if shooting room though.@tgk I love the little chicken dance. brilliant and cute. Can't think of anything to add.

@Gavralcraw & AirStyle: You're right about the strobe x laser effect. But I'm not ready to give up the strobe just yet. Here's another version I'm thinking of having some glitter/stardust and the strobe alternate. PS. love the one that says "BLAM". @Mrmo: <3 Golden afro!! She looks like a girl that enjoys her own looks, so maybe you could do something like this with her arms?  Hope it wasn't too rude of me to just edit your pic like that ;) |

This is my first post, and my first comp, and my first pixel art ever uploaded to the site. I'm posting my WIP so I can make myself finish this project I started yesterday.
I scaled it to 4x because I think it's viewed best at that size. And because win7 hates animated gifs. 
* see bottom if image not showing Basically, it's me in pixel form. I've been told I have an afro, or a jewfro on numerous occasions. Since "jewfros" were in the linked wiki article, I'm hoping that's fine for the comp. Fros of all sizes, right? Anyway, that's what I really wanted an opinion on. I'm still in the line art stage, then I'll do fills and shading. I did the body parts early, though, so hopefully you guys get a sense of the 3d spin effect. You're really cramping my style with this 16 color limit, though. EDIT: Apparently my website (which was hosting the image) just went down. Hopefully it wasn't traffic from this site? I've never had this problem before... I'm trying to fix it asap. |

I'd say the Jewfro is legit as per Wikipedia.
I was wondering if the fro needed to be round before. Wikipedia says it should be but check out pics of Afro Samurai's on Google - it sure ain't round and it's all over the place too. It's Japfro but Samual L Jackson was OK with it and I'd take him as an authority on this matter.

ms. sun is a lot better imo. The yellow works much better with the rest of the palette, and the roundness actually is sun-like, whereas you don't really get a sense of the moon in ms. moon. |
