Don't ask. :P Soooo much work still to do on this. And for some reason I keep pillowing my main lighsource. >.<

EDIT: Hey, this actually might turn out okay! :D

EDIT 2: Completion?

I need some advice guys! I made this:

But then due to some misunderstandings, I thought it wasn't too static for this weeks challenge. So I made this:

But now the first one wasn't breaking the rules after all. So now I have two pics I really like, and I don't know which to choose.

So what do you think I should do?

My very early stage WIP. Hopefully I will be able to finish.

(It's a girl on a water-slide... in case it isn't clear.)

"Can you build cars with roads?"

Looks like a girl no long on a water-slide (which would be more fun).

Mars, the running pose is strange, when running, your arm and leg on the same side would have opposite movements, eg: right leg retreats back while the right arm moves forward.

I don't like it.. need some help, C+C please..

her fist says POW!, but her body says 'I'm just standing here'. a KO punch begins in the toes.

Posted By: offwhite
Date Posted: 16 November 2011 at 6:56pm
Well, one thing that's definitely out of place is that her lower body is turning the opposite way of her upper body.

Another thing is that the man's legs are getting thinner because of the perspective, but they're a lot thinner than the girl's. Which would imply that they're is closer to the camera than his legs. But at the same time it looks like he's in front of her. Did that make sense?

And a third thing is that the movement in this picture is towards the camera/viewer. But the girls body, except for her arm, is completely on a plane, which kind of cuts the flow of movement.

The last two "problems" are closely related, imo.

About the man#s legs being thinner, that's because the man is taller than the girl so they stretch further away. as for the lower body on the girl, I see what you mean, when I did a quick select and flip horizontally, the stance seemed to look a lot better just from doing that (It obviously still didn't look right though..) I like the upper body pose a lot on the girl even if there doesn't seem to be enough UNPH in her pose.. I guess I kinda want it to look less like she knows karate and more like she just threw a weak punch.. i dunno, I'll play around with it. thanks for the comments.

Oh... one more broken jaw in this contest.

Posted By: Partack
Date Posted: 17 November 2011 at 4:06am
Lulz yeah, in all honesty i saw the other one someone did but I wanted to do a classic anime punched in jaw cos pervy thingy. I haven't drawn in a long time and want to get back into it so why not get back into the ol' 'I DRAW ANIME COS REALISM IS HARD LOL' stick..

anyways, I tried messing with the girls legs.. i can't get it to work =/ i may have to just forget this one and do something else (if i get time to.. =( ) unless someone wants to help me with it.. cos i really don't know what to do about the pose.. i tried a top down view a 3/4 view, the same view but the legs facing other way, a jump .. i dunno.. nothing seems right..

Thanks man! I thought it looked weird.

@Partack: I'm not sure if this will help, but I did a quick edit to show what looks wrong to me.

I flipped the hips but I also turn the forward leg so it is facing the front and put a slight crook in the back leg because it all just looked more natural to me. Before, with them so close together, it looked like she was off balance. I hope it kind of helps; I'm not entirely sure what poses you have already tried so this may not be what you are looking for.

Thank you very much for taking the time to help me with your edit Fey, I really appreciate it,

I think you've got something somewhat close to what I'm going for.. kind of a relaxed pose but sort of half-powerful looking too.. delicate maybe.. I donno.

I'll play around with this pose and see what comes from it i guess.. getting sick of looking at this picture already though.. Oh well ^____^

So my submitted piece needs discussion and review, is this the place for it?

*It may be too much due to the 13yo membership rule* Although in my opinion the "danger part" is quite well "blurred" or "stretched" to leave any trauma on the younger audience.

Is this really the only thing you could think of? Nothing else? at all?

@Partack: Now her boobs look wrong. I get that she is kind of anime-style so you may have conciously made them too large for her frame, but the shading also seems off. Most shirts would stretch across the boobs and you wouldn't see such dramatic shading separating the two.

@Smilecythe: I mean, I guess I get it, but I don't get it. It isn't a very dynamic pose, either. Also, why is the car there? Is he doing the rain in the middle of the street?

Yes, apart from tossing your hips in the air I did not find out any other possible way to literally f**k rain. Yesterday got my car stuck in mud in midst of a heavy rain so the scene and idea here are inevitable.

Thanks for your comments fey,

I hear you about the boobs. My mind seems to go hazey whenever i have to draw this particular organ. I have my own reasons for their size but I agree on the shading. I think I wanted to find some definition for them in fear of them looking 'flat'.

Just gonna post what Geciman and Ego wrote in the comments of the piece ,

"Still, I beleive that you've got the skills to make much better works than this. You've tried to handle a very courageous pose but if you don't give it the effort required, you won't be fond of what you get. Lemme try to cover up what's wrong with this one: -Most shapes (except the torso of the girl) are off. It seems going back the 2nd time to that torso paid off. -Lightsource is all around. Not consistent at all. Highlights are in the wrong places. -Color palette is faltering. You've got 1 style on the shirt of the girl (which is good) and very saturated colors on other places. -Lots of banding, everywhere. -Inconsistent AA, the piece needs a lot more AA then you've applied.

I beleive with 1 or 2 hours extra, this could've been a much better piece and a fruitful practice."
~ Geciman

"Gecimen nailed the crits, so I don't feel the need to reiterate them. Jist wanted to say that I came here thinking "Wow, that composition/pose with that character makes me think a lot of Scott Pilgrim." So nice job, it's certainly unrefined but it's pretty clever and the idea could really work if it got that bit of extra work." ~ Ego

Could anyone clarify what some of these crits mean? I'm not really going to edit the piece any more and consider it finished (lack of time) but I would like to gain some knowledge to remember for next time..

one problem that lead to other problems I think is that I modelled the pose around the fist and heads angle which really limited my possible poses and angles. i was kinda really satisfied with the fist that i wanted to keep it ... now as I reflect it seems like that was a bad idea (and admittedly, a bit lazy?)..

Anyways... change of subject, LOL!!!!!

*f*ck the rain picture*

this isn't to say that your works are any less genius, I'm just pointing out the similarities.. xDD

@Partack Yeah, I saw that, and I thought that was sad. As the demon overtook him, the abstract pattern slowly overtook the cat...Sad.
