I'm pixeling a portrait of a black man, and I would like some general c+c on the anatomy and colors
Using the NES palette

An important thing to remember about darker skin tones is that highlights, rather than shadows, create forms. At a pixel level, this means you could do away with the outlines around the nose. The orange highlights and eyes stand out too much imo, you need some kind of buffer (e.g. the next lightest purple). The dither doesn't bring anything positive to the piece.

In my edit I lightened up the background and used that lighter purple as the base skin tone.

I liked this edit, but I don't want to use too much purples, cuz the game is displayed at 2x, and he looks like a purple alien at that res
