  • ../../../../p/6741.htm - Fool

then create a piece based on what you've learned about their techniques, background, inspirations, etc... from reading their interview and browsing their gallery.

WIP: Emulating Artist "iLKke"
When I first saw iLKke's Art I was pretty inspired. Maybe because I myself feel comfortable with this type of style. When I saw the name iLKke... I thought of ...Eye Lick.. I dont know why, but strangly I went with it.

I have two questions...

1 - Can we copy the palettes of the artists? (I think it belongs to their own style I want to emulate...)

2 - Can we adapt the work we were working on until today to the challenge?

Posted By: philippejugnet
Date Posted: 26 March 2012 at 2:06pm
Colors don't own to anyone, you can use it

Posted By: Nevercreature
Date Posted: 26 March 2012 at 2:58pm
Yes, but I think the simple act of choosing the right colors is an art. I would not steal the merit to another artist without his allowance.

...

But in this case I'll do it...

philippejugnet, yours makes me think more of Mrmo than fool.

Nevercreature, it should be fine as long as you credit the piece(s) used.

WIP
Theme: The Goonies. No doubt youll see Sloth here. Along is One Eyed Wiggles..Me..Surely the pirate is better known as One Eyed Willie in the movie. HaHa, joke, funny...Saw a few stamp pieces in iLKke's collection. Thought I'd incorperate that in here with willie trying to eat it. Still have alot more to do with this.

@Gecimen: Thanks I am glad I can do something like fool!

@Graindolium: Who are you selecting? I am curious now

I feel like fool is at my side now saying: "c'mon boy! do this grass properly!" this is torture lol.

Posted By: eclep

I think Graindolium chose iLKke :

@philippejugnet: Its look terrible, I want to see this finish.

@Graindolium: Your first wip is interesting!

Show Me Ya moovz! Have you ever drink some falcon punch?
No? C'mon!

Yes!

Date Posted: 27 March 2012 at 12:50pm
Dastal, what do you mean?

Posted By: cure
Date Posted: 27 March 2012 at 12:57pm
Maybe he meant terrific, instead of terrible. Odd that the "terror" root branched into two opposing words.

Posted By: Dastal
Date Posted: 27 March 2012 at 1:19pm
Yes I wanted to say Terrific. Terrible in french can mean "awesome" or "terrific", I made this mistake because this word have the same spelling in english.
Sry XD.

Ah ok, ;) I really like how this is going:

In this kind of weekly do u guys think it calls too much attraction? Just thinking because I really want to get tp 3 with this.

Posted By: Jinn
Date Posted: 27 March 2012 at 1:50pm
I really think you should move your piece upwards to make more room for grass.

Posted By: philippejugnet
Date Posted: 27 March 2012 at 1:59pm
wow thanks I also think the same way but the grass I was working on sucks lol

Posted By: jeremy
Date Posted: 27 March 2012 at 2:27pm
fool doesn't use those colours that pastelised, even in the Hatching piece. Have a look at the way he uses his colours, as well as the ways he renders wood and grass.

Posted By: Jinn
Date Posted: 27 March 2012 at 3:20pm
I have to agree with Jeremy. Why don't you try to bring the green up?

Little Update.

Posted By: philippejugnet
Date Posted: 27 March 2012 at 5:35pm
WoW, thanks you all !! Sure I will do it. My grass was not working because all the colors on my pic are 10, and he uses just like 5 for a single square ;) thanks I will bring up the green.

My new WIP
 =  OR

I am not sure if i like it enough to want to submit it and i am also not sure how i can improve it any further. A 16 color limit is a bit more difficult than i wanted it to be for this piece. I still need to change the color of his kimono.

Posted By: Nevercreature
Date Posted: 27 March 2012 at 9:56pm
I'm going to make a Fool's mountain mockup...

I don't like clouds very much, I'll change it...

EDIT: I've used EXACTLY the same colours...

Hi all, first post on forum.

I always fascinated with iLKke avatar so is a good oportunity to recreate it:

It's still a WIP though.

I am inspired by the anime style sprites of Jinn, though I couldn't make a palette like him and shade like that, so I will need help of you guys make it better :)

Posted By: philippejugnet
Date Posted: 28 March 2012 at 8:40am
I am really glad with the result so far ;)

Posted By: eclep
Date Posted: 28 March 2012 at 9:32am
That's very pretty. Maybe you should try to raise the saturation a bit to make it more fool-ish

Also Fool doesn't often use such dark colors I think

Posted By: Nevercreature
Date Posted: 28 March 2012 at 9:50am

I have changed round rocks into mountains. The result is not quite good as Fool's style but I've taken his colours. Clouds are similar too.

I haven't copied any texture! I've taken the style and colours...

If you pay attention you will notice the rock is not repeated of the original... (Than means I'm good... Isn't it?)

I think you are just copying his colors and his environment, thats not quite creative.

Slym extended his hand to help me once more, he told me fool always have big pieces and big objects, something I didnt realized, so here is the other layer starting to merg e =)

Posted By: eclep
Date Posted: 28 March 2012 at 7:27pm
Now I'm trying to imitate Fool
My starting point was the bird from http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixelart/39281.htm - this piece

And I did this :

But in the end I think it doesn't really look like Fool's work

Posted By: Jinn
Date Posted: 28 March 2012 at 8:00pm
That's lovely, eclep!

Posted By: jeremy
Date Posted: 28 March 2012 at 8:17pm
@philippejugnet: it still looks like a cross between slym and Mrmo.
While Fool does hue shift, he keeps it pretty much in one hue - nothing like the green-purple-green you have. He uses hue to help differentiate objects from backgrounds where in yours pretty much everything shares the same colour range. His way of detailing surfaces can be seen really well in these two pieces (which are also relevant to your subject matter):

You can see in Kikimora's trees and Yonisaurus's skin the way that it looks like shadowy near-single pixel width cracks were put into a midtone, and then the edges highlighted.

imo even disregarding palette it could look way more Foolish with his rendering style used:

For those who don't understand french, Graindolium has coded a software designed for creating pixel art, with features such as changing colors with the wheel and binding keys for useful functionalities to make pixel art.
