Hey, my first post and my first attempt at pixel art.
I am no where near finished, thought some of you may be able to help me refine the body.

Thanks,
Nathan

The goal of shading is to give the illusion of 3-dimensionallity, the gradient-shading attempted here looks flat, which increased by the fact that the shading isn't correspnding to the lines.

Also when having fire or any other lightource near the object or char you're pixeling it helps to show that its actually fire by making it light the objects around it.

Made a quick edit, hopefully this'll help you a bit

I would also recommend this pixel art tutorial:

Get creative, use references (Old scifi films might be a perfect match for this robot), etc. Don't let other people make your art for you :)
