IMO the middle one, but head and lower pincer are better in the left one.

Yes.You noticed! First I drew the egg upright, but I did not like how it looked in the crab claw. Then I put it horizontally but without changing the lighting.

Getting the elements/colors together. My first work done with a tablet.

Shrunk the image to make it more manageable. Tweaked colors and changed the idea - now it's a snake collecting easter eggs from nests. He's not eating them, I swear. Far less sinister this way.

member_profile.asp?PF=34861&FID=1 - philippejugnet : butterflies ! Yes good idea , refuser le stress de la deadline , prenez votre time et tout irra bien !

member_profile.asp?PF=2513&FID=1"> cure : OOOh yea , sexy pokemon , vous représentez toujours des situations contemplative , {suggestion} maybe you can represent an action with another animal that would try to eggs seized

member_profile.asp?PF=34631&FID=1 - failureboy : you have no fear the empty!

member_profile.asp?PF=25890&FID=1 - LBpixels : ah yea , the wolf took the skin of the grandmother of Little Red Riding Hood

member_profile.asp?PF=25953&FID=1 - Lóng : nice, I like

member_profile.asp?PF=36042&FID=1 - Nevercreature :

member_profile.asp?PF=37188&FID=1 - GoldFibre : your WIP scares me

do not be afraid to use multiple model, it is also a good challenge to deepen that knowledge of the animal world !

Pretty sketchy for the moment.
Not sure about the palette, still having some color issues,

@FrostPumpkin: That's going to be beautiful when you're done. I already love the owl's colors.

@cure: I love how your colors blend together so well on your clam. Not sure if I'd want to eat clam eggs, though. And if they're anything like pearls, won't we have to wait 10 or so years for those eggs? We'd need more than one easter oyster! :D

Changed my mind my penguin looked very freaking evil,I'll try out a mouse and ill post a WIP soon.

I think the "pink" basket is too bright. I also think the "white" snake will not read so well over certain default backgrounds.

Yeah, I'll be adding a nest with eggs, and more eggs in the basket.

Comments?

Posted By: Colonel_Bracket

Currently at 13 colours including white. I'm going to have to be careful with my dithering if I want to include some water in there.
Any suggestions so far?

What I've done so far

Any advice for a beginner?

Posted By: failureboy

You're using a bit more than 15 colors (transparency counts, remember) and per rules you need a basket somewhere in the piece. I like where you're going though. It already has a nice look to it. I say keep those drab colors for the gator.

Hahaha totally blanked on the 15 color restriction. Thanks. I'll try cut down on those today. And the basket isn't in yet (see the giant empty space below the eggs?).

Pues mira, quedaría tal que así... : (It could be like this...:)

Bien ¿No? Eso sí, tendría que trabajar un poco más la animación de las alas y el abdomen, corregir el degradado y poco más. (Good, isn't it? But I should work the animation of the wings and the abdomen just a little, correct the dithering and little else.)

a3um: ha! I considered doing a pelican before I realised it had to be a basket too. Nice work errybody.

Posted By: Kathyrria

Still have to put in the basket and finish the crocodile, but I believe I'm done with the eggs at least ('cept for minor adjustments). Brought the color count down to 15, I just hope there's not a stray color here or there.

mon model de référence est assez difficile à retranscrire , je pense qu'il me faudra quelque essai pour y parvenir.

my reference model is quite difficult to transcribe, I think I will take some testing to get there.

Posted By: Colonel_Bracket
Date Posted: 13 April 2012 at 9:28am

One on the left has 5 colours for the frog's green, the one of the right has 3, and 12 colours in total.
If you squint your eyes they kinda look the same...

Posted By: Lóng
Date Posted: 13 April 2012 at 10:03am
Cleaned up the lines and filled in some colors, I'm thinking about leaving it unshaded since the lines are conveying sufficient information on volumes(will probably end up shading it anyway , we'll see)

what do you think? thoughts/ideas on color would be really appreciated.

@Grandolium: the texture you're creating reminds me of charcoal or wax crayon, loking forward to seeing the result of your testing.

@Colonel_Bracket:Eventhough the left one uses more colors, I'd still prefer it over the right one, because the heavy dithering is creating texture on the frog's skin , which would work better if kept smooth imo.

Posted By: Colonel_Bracket
Date Posted: 13 April 2012 at 10:32am
Hm. I might leave the darker mid-shade and dither the lighter one, since I'd really like to have some water and a lily pad down there.
This is my first sprite where I really have to think about my pallete.

Going to make the basket brown, so that I can use it for rushes and darker tones on the tongue.

@Long: The colours seem unsaturated, but shading will probably improve that.
The bottom left hoof seems a tad square.

this is awesome. I know the trees in this WIP look a little sketchy for pixel art but they have an "impressionist" look that I totally like.

@Reo  -  Maybe move the get joint down a bit and move them forward a tad?  I think it's a leg position thing.  The rest looks great.

Still not sure about the basket color. Lose the grass maybe? Leave the transparent BG, or should I add a color (I think I have room for one more)?

I'll prob'ly lose the tree in the background - just toying with the idea.

What else ain't working for y'all?

Posted By: Colonel_Bracket
Date Posted: 14 April 2012 at 12:04am

Nearing completion, yay! 15 colours including black.
(Excluding a couple stray white pixels on the side of one of the rushes)
Transparency counts as a colour, correct?

@failureboy: You might want to try lowering the snake's branch so that it's closer to the lower one. Although the current negative space between the snake/basket and the lower branch is quite nice.
I'd lose the tree too. I does fill out the piece more, but I'd do it with the existing elements.
Coniferous trees and snakes does seem a little odd too.

@Reo: In my opinion, the mountains doesn't look as they are far away, because they have the same level of detail like the ostrich. And the birdy is placed to high I think, he could almost trample down the mountains
Great job with the palette though.

Thanks! Yeah, that's what I meant with re-positioning the background. The effect is still there, but less pronounced in the finished version.
