Hi guys, I've been trying to make an sprite base, well there is my results:

I really don't know how to progress throught the 1st stage.
I can't find good palette for that, and i have no idea how to shade it right.
Tutorials doesn't really give me anything, I've read tons of them, but it neither help me.
So please, can somebody show me, how it should look?
(without huge edits on 1st step)

Hi, I have tried to do different shading without changing main outline.

Left is mine obviously, I have changed palette a bit. But I find anatomy of the figure a bit odd, especially the shoulders, maybe it would be better to change it. If I can advise, it i best to draw pictures with reference material first, try to learn something about shadows, colors, perspective etc. and after that try to do something at your own.

Head is wider than the torso right now, beef up that ribcage. The neck rises abruptly from the body, addition of trapezius muscles should help ease the transition.

If your trying for a realistic approach then shrink his head.

(of your version on the left)

the skull is a relatively round structure of flat bone plates.  Make the skull rounder, flatten the forehead, give wider flatter cheek bones and a defined chin.  The face isn't an oval.  The head is also way too large.

The neck is too short.  Once you have better done the cheek bones, your neck will be better in width and proportion.  Add trapezius muscles like cure said.

The upper torso still needs to be beefed up.  Broader shoulders and pectorals.  Stomach is too thin.

Biceps should be thicker.  The joint of the upper and lower arm muscle should recede a bit, not pop out.  The lower arms need to be about the same width or slightly thinner than the biceps.  Wrist is the skinniest part of the arm.  Hands are too big.

Legs need to be longer.  You should try to at least give the impression of the thigh and calf muscles.  Thigh is thicker than calves and longer.  Ankles should be skinnier.  Add knee joint?  Feet are too big.  Perspective of the feet seems a bit off.  The body gives an impression that he is standing on flat ground, but his feet as if he is dangling from a rope or something.

Well, tried to do what you've said, i kinda don't understand the term of trapezious muscles, and google doesn't help me much ^^.

EDIT: After dpixel's entry.

What you think about that?

Well in some of the entries his forearms and shins are larger then his biceps and thighs and his head is too tall. Lastly his hands and feet are too large.
