well, this is my first ever attempt at a pixelized face. even though i started pixeling 5 years ago, i haven't improved as much i as would have liked. i still have huge problems with lighting and perspective of my pieces. so, i need some critique on how to fix it.  the head is supposed to be more tilted to the right.... i'll give the pixelized version as well as the original picture, if it'll load for me.

**note: the hair is meant to have no highlights. it's a style thing i'd like to try with it. i'm not quite finished with it as well. it needs more strands and smoothing over, i know. so, no crits on it unless is's perspective please

UPDATE: i'd love to know which one looks better: the non-proportionate one or the more proportionate one. i personally think the proportionate one looks like an alien, but then again i'm weird. i love opinions and comments here people!

  Not Proportionate             Propportionate

here's the (very old) original picture- of me and my boyfriend.

The first problem I see is the eyes are too high.  In realistic drawings, the bottom of the eyes is the same distance from the bottom of the chin as the top of the head.

The eyes are too close together.

Don't try to copy the photo's featuers too closely, as your head's slant is completely different.

Yes, Entivore seems to have captured the main problem :)

But if it is the face slope that is bothering you, it might be because her cheek is coming off too far out.
From her forehead all the way down to where her cheek meets her mouth, its almost one straight line.

Youre doing a very good job this far =)

It's looking very good so far. The only things I noticed that looked a bit off, were the nose and cheek. The nose could be a bit more rounded on the end, and the cheek comes out too much. Other than that, it's great.

Here's something that might help: It's just a random face, but the proportions are about correct on this. The ears should be between eye and nose line, mouth should be around betweennose and chin. The eyes should be half way down the face.

Succes with your piece!

I think the eyes are too big, see how on the photo the left eye is a wee bit smaller? But in the pixellized version they look pretty much the same size, also, I'd try putting the left eye 2-3 pixels lower

I think it would help you if you opened up the pic in MS Paint or PS and made a grid over the face in the photo.  Then make a blank grid on another canvas and make your sprite square by square.  It will help you to proportion your sprite a lot better when you see how the face is spaced out.  Right now, your sprites eyes are too close together and the nostrils are bunched up all wierd.
