This turned out bigger than I had originally intended, but oh well. I like how it's coming along.

Also, I need to change the tail.

edit- I'm still working out some of the curved lines. It's an area of knowledge that I am still developing.

I believe the eye needs to be a little small so as the tentacles being a little bigger. like this one.

Also put colors. I did this mistake once when I showed my work without colors and the first feedback i got was to put colors first.

This reminds me of how long it took me to get a feebas in pokemon sapphire. Really all I could see was a magikarp, and a carnivine at that point until finally a feebas!!

I rarely block it out with color first. Sometimes, but not usually. I prefer doing lineart first. Do most people usually start with color? Is it actually more beneficial, or does it just boil down to personal preference?

The tentacles do need to be longer, yeah, and I think I see what you mean about the eye.

Well, not so bad,
it's just my comparison with the present picture.
You do true test their work, the line is easy to fix.
Do you begin to paint a picture specifically for the lines that would find all the bad places and fix them or do you drawn this picture hoping for you do not correct it?
:)
Do not be lazy to improving himself in drawing.

I sketched it out first, then worked on getting the lines fixed up, moving things around when needed.

Were the first sketches too awful?
Why You do not started the WIP topic with nerves sketches, and has shown a clean version of the linear picture?
