I love 'other art.'

This is an entry I made for a national comic and cartooning competition. I only found out about it the day before, so this was an overnight job.

I Wrote the story. Drew it by hand. Scanned. Fiddled with the colours. And finally, digitally texted.

I recieved news that both have been shortlisted for the competition and are on exhibition in Sydney, and could be up for some prizes this weekend!

Cute comic and a nice resolution.

I think the second panel is a little hard to make out because the word balloons are covering up the cafeteria worker. The third panel's lack of eyes looks odd to me since they're in the other panels. The bottom left panel's balloon looks scrunched by "Look at me...". 

Also, a flat white must be some sort of Aussie thing because I've never heard of it.

Oh yeah... good luck with the competition!  Hard to bust something out in such short order and I think it came out rather good considering.  Your cow comic is sure to sweep the prizes.  Funny as hell.

5 panel comic:

• I agree about the second panel. It was too late by the time I got to the digital texting to show WHO was actually talking.
• The guys eyes are only visible in the fourth panel so I could show how angry he was (the first panel doesnt have any eyes, but his nose might be a bit confusing).
• I used an extended bubble to emphasise the 'Look at me.'
• I had no idea about the flat white reference! It's just a simple type of coffee, which I assume you assumed.

In other news,

I won 2nd and 4th place in the competition, which won me $100...and a hat.

Hahah. The prize will probably only pay for the petrol money it cost to drive all the way to the presentation! But its cool...plus I always wanted a promotional cap.

I've had some more comic ideas since, I might try and get them on paper! Oooh, and if you havent already checked out my Black Hole comic, DO SO!

Hahaha, iSTVAN, your Black Hole comic is awesome!  The art style is a bit too freeform and its hard to tell whats going on from time to time, but the story itself and the jokes are priceless!

I agree about the freeformy-ness, I'd like to get good enough to make it look like a proper-serious comic, only with a spin of my sense of humour. I know I need to work on using darker tones if I plan on only drawing it in black and white. Here's a coloured panel a friend of mine did in photoshop (Id love to be able to make it ALL like this!):

Thanks though! ( The 'say hello to your mum for me!' joke is one of my favourite lines aswell. I wrote it as a reference to an annoying Australian late night show host who always says that at the end of every show.)
