So I am not going to be able to finish my WC entry in time due to having started another 'not-to-specs' piece first, catching up with friends and a bunch of other things. So, I though I might as well chuck this in the WIP forum because I would like to finish it.
Using this pallet:

I am trying to make a sleeping dragon in front of a fireplace (as they all do):

Now I am currently experimenting with the floor but every design I go with just looks dreadful or out of style from the dragon/walls/fireplace:

That was my last (WIP) attempt, and honestly - probably my worst attempt at a floor. The issue I'm having is I need it somewhat textured to fit with the style of the rest of the image (horrid sentence, sorry) and give it the cave floor feel. The issue I have with every thing I attempt, is it tends to pull the eye away from the focal point that is meant to be the dragon. So, in brief - my issue is to create a nice textured floor that is detailed enough to fit the rest of the image style but without being too detailed that it detracts from the dragon.
The walls I've got covered, going with pretty much the same thing as the back wall the whole way around. The white line was just a horizon line for reference.
All feedback welcome and apologies about the brick wall of text. If anyone has any good examples of texture methods, I'd gratefully accept help.
------------- The world is but a shadow of emotion, cast in shades of grey.
