@TheChannel : Nice idea :)

First throw (Not sure it's the good word for the french word "jet"...), hope I'll not get lost on it ^^ :

Actually I'm trying to put the main elements, so the proportions and poses are surely weirds yet :|

@pj, Is your entry created 100% new this week?
We just added this piece to your gallery
http://www.pixeljoint.com/files/icons/full/9zlhm2.png">

If not new then it would not fit the rules and perhaps even venture into redundant :/

that was from the garbage piece I posted some months ago, I just found it funny that it would be a nice challenge entry IMO. :) I'm honest ( depending on a point of view ).
its an activity to practice, thats why its redundant if I'm just using something I had done before.

I'm not sure if I'll finish it and participate in this challenge but I wanted so much to leave here my idea of 'someone got trapped in a gemstone'. It's a challenge to draw the gemstone already lol

@TheChannel: I like your idea very much! Keep working on it :)

@atpalicis
Oh, yesterday I had the same idea, until I started working on it but with a simpler style, do not know if it will be good but I'll try to finish it >.<

I will probably make a queen bee inside

My current wip, I would like to say "finished" but I think I'll have to work once again on the foreground colors...

@Kaze
I really like it but I think you should add more to the background, seems a bit empty

This is my first ever pixel art, so any constructive criticism is appreciated! :) It's not finished yet though :)

Oh, this is fun.....

Still working on the shading of the teeth, though, and I think it doesn't make use of the shape that well. :(

@NixMillenium, are you planning to make it look three dimensional, or keep it relatively flat? :)

@Protectrix, I've worked on it a bit more :) still looks flat though so I'll keep working on it

Yours is pretty amazing :D

CHALLENGE RULES

  • Only new pixels allowed.

This means all challenges, every week, is made of entries started that week. Anything that is pre-existing is not cool and unfair to everyone else who enters. We can't always find a way to prove this but we expect everyone to honor this spirit so they are challenges and fair to everyone who does follow the spirit of the challenges. Doing this cheats no one but yourself.

I would suggest you leave the red version in the gallery as it is and make a new entry for this week if you wish to participate.

I just added your entry to the challenge and gallery and see you already have an update. This is cool and although most don't update their entries once submitted, it is allowed.
FYI, the problem with doing this, I've noticed, is that members will view/review/rate/vote when first seen and often fail to notice the update and the piece fails to reflect what would be a better vote when the challenge ends and voting has begun.
Its best to be patient and post when sure its as done as its gonna be.

Remember that patience in pixelart is the best skill to have ;)

@TheChannel; the striped background's color is too similar with the foreground. The rainbow is unrealistic.

@Sublyme; nice. I'd first roughly shade it before going into the details.

@00Lucas00 , now it's even more challenging! I gotta finish my image!

@protectrix , I know already who to vote for ;) Love your work!!

This is what I have so far. It'll be my first pixel art piece that is actually a full picture, so I am pretty stoked.

Hey, guys!
First time posting at PixelJoint, so I need A HUGE PIECE of help, if you don't mind!
I've been enjoying pixel art for a long time, but I've never done pixel art myself :DD So, here goes my first WIP - (It has no transparency, and it's only a sketch!)

It'll be called "The King Emerald" and it will be (I hope!) about a king that lived in a world made of emerald, but that, one day, discovered someone that has different colours (he'll be beside the big hood man!)

Then, from you guys, I need just 2 things:
- I'm having trouble when shadowing the diagonal parts of the orange frame: It's perpendicular to the light source, and I simply don't know how to shade it.

- Second and last: Do you guys know any tutorial about doing clothing texture, or any good pic that has great clothing pixel rendering (I may say "rendering"?)??

By now, I am only surprised for seeing such good works around here :DDD Bye!

@ManipulatedAngel The shape of the skull is great, but you should probably use less shades of emerald and have a more varied colour palette.

@Sublyme Thanks you the compliment and adivce! I kind of thought the emerald would be good for the contest. I also find it quite flat compared to the other entries, however that may be due to the fact that I am a beginner.

We had to send your entry back for two reasons:

• The voting in the public queue is really low probably because your piece depends heavily on the 'lineart' and yours here is very uncontrolled and dirty. PJers tend to dislike that a lot. This is all about practicing so don't let that discourage you from improving. See cure's pixelart thread in the resource section and see the n00btorial thread while there too if you haven't seen those already.

• Your app settings or tool use disqualifies this from being considered PJ gallery pixelart. Use can use the spec checker in my sig to check your piece for yourself. Notice it uses 100 colors which you did not choose yourself manually.
---If you only used those 12 colors while making your piece then your app output setting are wrong. You can find help for this in the resource section too.

Your piece shows a 12 color palette (11 + 1 trans) and while this is not wrong at all. A piece like this using 12 colors is excessive since a palette of 4 colors is all you need here.

anyhoo, don't be discouraged and keep practicing. Ask questions, post WIPs, study other's work :)

Hello all! My nickname here in Pixel Joint is, as you can see, CrimsonPixel.

I'm practically a total newbie on this nice art, althought I made some RPG characters and so in the past (FFVI likewise). I'm trying to make my own games and art, so I'm starting to learn the way of the pixels so far.

I found this nice community and this weekly challenges, which I loved to see and I'm eager to join every week I can. That way I think I could improve my skills by trying to do my best on these challenges as they are coming, and furthermore by the community criticism.

That being said, this is my submittal to this challenge:

I'm of course open to any criticism, and I want it and need it, because I'm a newbie wanting to learn! This is practically my first "pixel art" truly ever. I think the pallete could be improved a lot, I find it hard to make a good one and use it nicely, and of course the drawing is kinda bad so is the dithering, but I tried to make it today before the time finishes and I reachead a point where I thought I could not improve myself the picture and I kinda liked it, so there it goes! Thanks for reading.
