Wooh, first post! :D

This is my WIP. I know that the canvas must be 240x180, but yeah this is just for viewing purposes when I haven't added anything yet. This breaks a few rules, but I'm not submitting this just yet and this is just for C and Cs. And if you're wondering, yes, this is made like FF sprites. Any suggestions too to anything else I can add in that BIGG canvas not to waste space? I could just enlarge the sprite...but... :( Any thoughts or help?

Many thanks!

Good thing I've been messing around with my TI84

@Salomon - Looking great; however, watch those single pixels. Each pixel needs to connect to the rest either from the sides or from the top and bottom.

@Philippsjugnet - Have to see the end result, but this looks like it's going to be a bit overly busy for readability.

@tomic - that is looking damn impressive so far.

Yay, lets type this all again, WIP:

I'm finding that not using dither makes the two colour restriction a lot harder given the canvas size.
I watched the entire series of 'ef: A Tale of Memories' yesterday - and decided it was fan-art time. Seriously, if you're an anime fan, and haven't already seen this show, I highly recommend it.

Some of the chains are obviously unfinished, plus I want to add some more cracks in them here and there. I'm also trying to avoid using vertical lines for shading as I have and idea of using vertical lines to shade the BG. I'm planning on putting pieces of paper and a paper airplane in the top left (reference to an earlier scene in the anime).

Wazzah! This is awsome! It would have been a good game :)

Any feedback? Chihiro (the girl) is meant to be the central focus but with a kind of circular motion around her with the chains, paper plane and diary note pae to give the sense of chaos that surrounds her (and the consequential break away from it. The top bars I've used to give it a cinematic feel as well as stop the eye wondering outside the image due to the vertical lines. I'm not sure about the Etch A Sketches everyone else had a s a kid, but mine couldn't do plain verticle lines without connecting to another pixel either directly above, below or to the side; hence the double thick angled lines. So I tried to meet those limitations as well as those instructed in the challenge rules. I'll probably call it done now, unless somebody notices some massive flaw.
Also, I did use the actual show as a a reference. ;)

While that's very meaningful and true to the nature of Etch-a-sketch, this is not a must for this challenge. (Read: optional)

Yeah, Already got informed of that on another piece I made a similar comment on - apparently I cannot comprehend the word 'optional'. -_-

Allow me to fix that for you:

The blood splatter is well done, I think the muzzle flash would work better as just the middle one as it's using a darker hue than the BG so doesn't read very clearly as a muzzle flash.
What else are you planning on adding to the scene? I find my eye is attracted to the floor - maybe some kind of creeper or something will help re-direct the eye towards the figures.

Actually I'm still thinking how to better construct the picture. Having dark grey floor and light grey sky seem to be able to keep viewer's attention on fighting characters, not sure yet, really difficult with bi-colors.

Btw, I don't see changes you've made ;p

I fixed the image so everyone could see it. =)

When posting an image use the code
{img} insert direct URL here {/img} but with Square brackets [ ] instead.
I made it so others could see your WIP - I thought you'd simply made a blunder. ^_^

I am new to pixel art and this is my first time trying out a challenge, and my first post so I know its not great. My idea was to do a mock-up of an RPG for like a watch or something that could only display 2 colors. I also wanted to keep it connected as per the Optional Challenge. But, I reached a point in this picture where I found myself 2nd guessing everything so....heres my WIP. Any advice would be appreciated.

@luigi_mui - Dude, that turned out amasing. The angled frames really emphasis this nicely.
I didn't notice this before but the middle guy with the gun has a broken arm. It looks like his back is turned to his foe but his arm looks like it's facing toward the enemy. Otherwise this is really impressive mate.

@Hapiel - coming along nicely. I like that you moved it over - fits more into a standard rule of thirds and has much better composition.

@Tomic - that just keeps getting better.

Thanks man! Actually the middle guy is turning his back on his foe, trying to have a weirdo battle style here ;)

Inspired by Alice In Wonderland (obviously) and a first line of Tom Waits' song "We're all mad here" from album (guess what) "Alice", which goes: "You can hang me in a bottle like a cat".
It may look very sketchy and jagged, because I want to follow the optional rule. I suck at drawing living characters so I need advice how to improve it.
Chesire Cat's face looks very flat, which I didn't like too much, but it also looks like he is pressing it against bottle glass, which is cool. Does it looks at least decent?

Posted By: Hapiel
Date Posted: 06 February 2013 at 10:45am
I think for the cat to look like pressing you might need to draw him even closer to the edge. Also you can stick to the optional rule and still clean up all your lines :)

Good luck!

Hmm, I'm gonna stick strictly to that device limitation, so every darker pixel must have other pixel to the left, right, top or bottom. Also, I'm gonna move this cat closer a bit. :)

There are very interesting works here !

@Hapiel : I like your idea and your use of the colours (in ordert to make the shadow behind the hill). I'm in a hurry of see what you'll add, because for now it seems a bit empty...

@GameBoy : I agree with Hapiel, draw the head closer to the edge should make it less flat

@ultimaodin : I like the render, the chains give dynamism to the picture.

Here is my current progress, I don't think I'll connect the dark pixels...

A little update :

It needs to be 240x180, not 180x240 dude.

Warpzone!

Still very much a WIP, need to add some kind of spaceship flying through. Good practice for drawing circles at least.
