here is a sketch.

maybe it is too boring.. also there are only 2 colors left. So I am not sure if I will do this one or come up with something completely different.

Very nice, could use some color work, and cleaning up, its looking very nice, very dynamic.

Here's mine. A lot more basic. Thought I might be able to use some of the art for my personal project as well. Let me know what can be improved!

Looks like it first explodes and then quickly shrinks. that's strange

My entry will be the short story of Al the Alien, and starts like this:

I little bit of progress.

Added texture, fixed colors. Sill A LOT to do: finish nuclear animation, make acid corrosion slower, apply smoke in front of building, apply light and shades to smoke, apply luminence, add particles.. Add more different explosions.

But I re-read the challenge rules and now I am not sure if my piece fits current theme. So there is a problem - maybe I have to start working on something different.

Although I'm not in charge of what is/isn't considered an entry. You are showcasing the effect of the explosions using the building as a catalyst. I think that qualifies.

Getting constructive. It seems a bit segmented. Letting the animations run together, or linger longer would add to the effect.

Muxaun that animation looks great!

WIP

I'm going to have to cut down on the colors, that's already 10.
Constructive criticism and suggestions are welcome.

Looks great but I think you should change the bouncing angles.

They should be more like this:

This way it will look more consistent.

Damn, checked the forum too late and I already submitted it.

Thanks for the advice Theoden, but I kinda found that it was to predictable to move in those directions, with this animation I show the opposite as I tried to make it as random as possible, I understand your point tho.
Still thanks.
You can check the art in http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixelart/78977.htm - here , I hope that even if it doesn't bounce like that you can still enjoy it :)

Yes, it would have made it predictable. It looks nice with random angles too. Nice effects and I liked the alien by the way. :)

Working on a water droplet that will drop from the sky hit the ground and splatter. Does that qualify as explosive effect?

Current design for the droplet. Haven't animated him yet, this will be the frame right before he hits the ground.

Edit: Also when using transparency does that count as additional colours?

Water drop tends to be more or less spherical when it is falling.

I'm thinking it will start more this shape when its in the air

However will turn to that shape for a frame before bursting.

Not sure if I'll get the effect I'm imagining though.
Something like this

I revised mine, what do you guys think?

The missile shouldn't crack open, they have triggers on the front that detonate on impact, slightly after, or at a certain altitude or distance from the target.

Here is my WIP, I still have to refine all the frames, add some effects, etc.

It looks less like an explosion and more like it is swiftly moving away from the ground. There is no rapid expansion at first.

I don't recall you having to make an explosion.

Other than the name kind of implying it it isn't stated in the requirements. It just says an "effect"

Yes, but I assumed he was trying to make an explosion.

Yes, I really wanted to make an explosion, haha . I'll try to fix it, don't know if I'll get in time though.

Is it just me or the animation has a couple of frames missing a pixel line on the bottom? It looks like the image shrinks

Oh, you're right, I'll fix that soon.

Another iteration. I got rid of the whole missile thing in the beginning because it was confusing and wanted to stick more with the theme for the challenge as it doesn't matter what caused the effect it's just about the effect. Maybe? Lol. Anyways, this would work better for a game anyways.

A WIP - just the main lighting effect so far. At the moment I'm trying to find a good way to blend into all the smoke that will be added later. Will also add more particles for variation.

Looks very promising so far.

But the white circle looks more like a glitch - the connection between it and explosion is not obvious.
