Great concept!

Looks like the top of the beak/head has lost some of the ferocity of the original. the flatter top made the screech more visceral and the jagged shadows make the beak more wicked looking. Don't clean it up so much!

It really looks like a huge, scary, dirty bird!
Can't wait to see how it goes!
Do I use too many exclamation marks?!
PROBABLY!!!!!!! ;\

Edit:

What I'm working on.. it will have a person (probably a child) next to the bowl to make the shark look bigger.
Any tips/ideas? I feel like such a pixel-n00b :P

I agree, the latter versions seem to be closer to yawning than screeching.

Daresay that'll change as the pixel progresses though.

I think the wings added a lot to it.

I have to agree with Spot that on current version it looks more like it is yawning.

maybe put it into an aquarium bowl? or place on the sofa.

hawks are domesticated by the way - they are widely used for hunting.

@a3um: this is just outstanding. I wish to see how you are choosing the colors.

Here is a sketch of mah piece. Trying to practice with glossy things.
I am not yet sure if I will really finish it.
Background is a huge problem. Shadows are too.

I really like how you did the highlights muxaun! Maybe add some reflected lights on the back of his body

Thanks.
reflected lights are needed for sure, but it is difficult to apply them without background.
At first I thought that I will use just a flat surface for background. But a3um's piece has proven again that proper background can make any piece better (though I know that background should have been planned from very beginning). So I would rather spend a day thinking about what to draw here.

Thanks:) wip2 (actually, 4 or 5):

@Muxaun - The process is completely intuitive:)

@a3um: looks like the beak has inproper highlight. Maybe covering it with deeper shadow will make it look better. Or maybe it's just me.

here's my WIP2:
I tried to understand the texture so the lighting is broken a bit.

I know that there are no self-shadows and reflected lights. I will add them later after final positioning of these legs and head.
The primary problem now is that it looks just bad overall.

Tried adding the background, but it looks too messy.
