here's a sketch.

Is this kind of depicting the insides allowed for this challenge?

I would like to polish the intestines as hard as I can. Add more severed organs, more colors, add more watermelon-related organs. Maybe more seeds.

Like always I have problems with background - wanted to place it on the soil, but it looked just ugly.

[UPDATE]

This piece will require tremendous amount of work.
I also am very unhappy that my palette is bloated.

Place it in a picnic setting? Like on a platter or something maybe?

Got started on mine. I am using my palette from the 13 color comp.
It is not very creative.

Edit: Update

Edit2: Done, but I might want to do some edits later, so I won't submit yet

Edit 3: Tweaks

Sketched up an idea. No clue if I'm going to roll with it neither do I know what colours to pick.
Any suggestions are welcome.

@peytonisgreat - I really like the way you used the pallete and those patterns on the background & waves are pretty neat.

At least now I have a better Idea sketched out...

@Chroso, make a 13 color palette for your idea and then enter the palette comp too :)
I dunno if just putting a face meets the rules too well?

@Erilis, be clean and pixel with care. See cure's pixel art thread in the resource section. This output has artifacts so make sure output is good for pixelart before you waste your time, k.

I just thought an artery looking like a mine would be pretty cool. Any suggestions or advice on how to improve it would be appreciated

Here's my idea. I don't really know how this idea came to me, but it seemed fitting for the theme, so I decided to put it in pixel!

I'm not sure it counts as a "living thing" since it's a ghost type, but lets hope it's fine.
