Hello friends,
I'm considering getting an iPad, but before I do I wanted to know if any of y'all have any favorite pixel art apps for the iPad that you'd recommend?
I've done a few online searches and apps like Pixaki and Sprite Something come up frequently.
Thanks

I like Pixaki, but then I should as I made it :) What features are you looking for? Pixaki only came out yesterday, so there are still plenty of features I want to add in the future, the big one being animation.

Well alright!
I got my iPad yesterday and one of the first apps I downloaded was Pixaki.
Things I love about the app already: - The layout is visually pleasing and uncluttered. - The tutorial image was fun. - The app is intuitive and easy to use. - It was very easy to get the colors I was looking for with the color tool. - 20 layers is more than sufficient for me. - Exporting files is incredibly easy. - Working with pixel art is just so much easier on a tablet than on my desktop.
Important features I'd like to see in future updates: - I'll definitely eagerly be awaiting animation. - It would be nice to be able to save and load custom color palettes.
Much less important features that still might help a little: - Being able to arrange and organize swatches in the color palettes would be useful. - Custom canvas sizes would be nice (but the templates will really provide everything I need) - I'd like to see the automatic grid while zooming even as low as 2500%
All in all, I'm quite happy with my purchase. I have a feeling that I will get a ton of mileage out of this app, both at home and on the road. I'm off now to rate the app in the store!

I'm glad you're getting on well with Pixaki :) A few people have requested being able to save and load palettes, so I'll probably be adding it at some point. The same goes for the other features you mentioned: I'm hoping to add many more things to the app in the future.

Rizer, send in a news item or link to your app in the gallery :)

Is there any chance for a Pixaki iPhone version?

Hi CeriX,
It's definitely something I've considered. I think I'll at least give it a go to see how usable it is on a small screen, and if it works well then I'll release it. What do you think? Would making pixel art on such a small screen be frustrating?

Well, if the zoom function works fast and intuitive (the standard pinch gesture) I see no problem with the small screen.
Maybe you have also to assure that pixel graphics are not shown in full resolution on retina displays, but that should have been an issue with iPads already!

Just found this one today, have yet to buy it. You can check it out here first on the web... It's alot simpleir than Pixaki, but it has an intergrated community and free store that has drop and drag ready art to use.

There's no import image feature as such yet, but you can copy an image to your clipboard and paste it, either as a new layer or on the current layer. I think I'll add image import in the near future.
Thanks for buying Pixaki! :)

I have an idea to be able to share/upload from the app directly to sites like Imgur, pixel joint, and deviantart.

Do they have an open API for that?
Question to the webmasters!

Major improvements have done in my app, including funky-style picture scaling. Still free to download!

The entire design of Pixaki is absolutely enjoyable. This app has helped me tremendously in my quest to finish assets for my 2d game. There are retro style templates that allow you to pick old style consoles like SNES and Gameboy resolutions.

Thanks Chris, it's great to hear you're enjoying the app :) I'd love to see what you've made if you're open to sharing any of it.
