crosspost:

imo if it looks green by itself you shouldn't use it, but at a very low saturation it's hard to tell hue anyway.

using a colour which is perceptually green is fine.

if you want to be super safe, just stay outside of this:

But yeah, just obey the spirit of the challenge and you will be fine.

Little sketch. I think there's no green(yet).

Very much a work in progress.

I will try to use only 5-6 colors.
Here's a quick sketch.

The ultimate goal is to animate clouds and the tree.

@Muxaun and Exquisious- very nice, you two. I think some AA would really help your pieces. Make it a little less sharp, if you catch my drift. Good luck!

@Damien- I really dig those colors.

@Whisper Heart- I can't see your image? Broken link/bad host perhaps?

@Dat Muffin Man- I like your first image a lot more than the second.

@Cream- The tree shape and lighting seems a bit odd. Not a bad start, though.

Here is a sketch of my concept. I went with a tree golem over an actual tree. Trees will be on the horizon and leaves all over the ground.

I may be bending the rules a little, but I am committed now! Hope you guys like it.

EDIT:

EDIT 2: Final version unless anyone wants to give me feedback.

<FONT style=": #eeeeee">Tree animation is too boring.

So I decided to do another piece.
Here's a sketch

UPDATE:

UPDATE2:
played with colors a bit.
Now to polish everything. + finish the sky
I don't like some birds and shapes of most branches.
And I don't like the trunk being too triangular.

My new biggest rant/peeve is black birds in pixelart scenes.
You Senor have made my day with a most perfect use of black birds!
If the pink is clouds then I would break it up a bit more so its not confused with a canopy. If its a canopy then its not reading right.

Whoa. Thanks a lot.

The pink was meant to be the clouds and it will be reworked for sure.

Watch/plan the proportions. They just look/read wrong there. Since you have pixelled and are proud of what you have then correct the canopy and horizon before proceeding.

Use your pinks to AA birds where jaggiest when almost done. Cleanup the hard black outlines on the tree or sel-out them or ditch them ;)

Not that I don't like how it looks (it looks good), but hey, search for "silhouette scenery" pictures in google or somewhere else. Your current piece is so cliché: a tree, a man, a grave, a black bird. Only the sun behind a mountain is missing.

There are just so many similar pictures. They all look cool, but I doubt pixel art is a right instrument for making such things. They look best in high resolution.

Can you try adding something that will make it look different?

I can be wrong - this type of pictures is liked by many people and you'll probably get high chances of getting high prizes.

And regarding the grass. I guess it shall be a little bit higher.

You`re probably right. I do a lot of photography as a hobby, therefore cliche is practically my middle name.

And I`ve been thinking for awhile about what the piece was missing, and I will add something a little more interesting, I`m just not quite sure what yet. I was thinking about a skull in a hazy clouded atmosphere to symbolize the death (and make the cross a little more relevant), but it really wont fit into the piece properly. I`m sure I`ll think of something.

And the grass...I know grass is a living thing, but that`s just creepy.

@Exquisious: the grass looks a little too wavy...maybe make the grass bend in the wind faster?

I felt the grass should be higher and I wanted to check out how it will look. And then I decided to spend additional 2 minutes to animate it. just for fun.

I kind of do like the look without the animation. I think an animation would be far too time consuming for the turn out. Although it would be nice to see some leaves falling..

EDIT: I did a slight color inversion for fun, it looks odd, but more unique at least.

I just wanted to randomly mention that the one blade by the grave looks like a hand that popped out of the ground and is waving.

The wind compells me to do a last-minute (en)try.
I don't really see how to manage the background, but I'll try to animate a walk in it.
Everything seems on-fire. D:

Edit : hehe, closure time... Noob's WIP time!
