Trying to learn as I go, and they say the best way to learn is to get some stuff out there so people can comment and critique it. Just hoping to get some input and get better with practice.

Anyway, tried to make a little animated machine, and looking for some suggestions.

I can upload the sprite sheet itself if you want it, but it's pretty large, since there's 26 frames so I could add the reversal movement.

Anyway, coloring is not my strong suit, so I borrowed a palette on the forum, and went from

to

And I think it looks better, but just looking for some input.

Thanks.

You are going good. Try adding more of the orange and reddish tones so that its still grey overall but with more 'pop'. Maybe highlight with yellow and not the white could bring things up a notch too.
In the middle part of the bot you have colored as its its all one piece instead of coloring each metal panel as its own on which the light hits right to left.
...use that palette to help you.

Well, I've tried to make some changes base on what was said, so here's my next shot at this

I wasn't really sure how to go about adding the orange and reddish tones to the sprite; a little help there would be appreciated.

Edit:

Well, okay, gave it a shot using a brown, but I'm still not sure.  Also edited the movable part of the leg, and can't decide if it looks better or worse

With yellow highlights:

And with the white, which I think looks a little cleaner:
