Looking good so far.
Biggest flaw at the moment is the ear- it is too high. Look at where the bottom of it aligns horizontally with the top of your lip in the reference.
In your image, you've drawn the bottom aligning above your nose.
Likewise, the whole left side of the hair/head appears higher than it ought to be.
Make sure the side of neck leads up to the ear as well.
Fix those things, and it should look more accurate I think.

I must agree with Alex, it's looking awesome but the ear is a bit high (and I somewhat feel your chin could be larger, so the orientation of the face is more readable). Keep up the good work, I'm willing to see moar!

Are you trying to copy the exact same image, with the slight upwards angle? Or are you making a more regular horizontally aligned portrait?

I was advised to start over with a better reference.
So I did:

But I see that I didn't construct my portrait carefully, so this time I'm spending more time on construction...

people on Pixelation pointed out some issues, so probably, no reason to post other than to show improvement...

You seem to have a pretty good start and I think you will make some really awesome portraits once you refine and practice!

I made a little edit of the face

I think your ching needs to come out like 2 pixels.  The eye on our rights a little weird, and I just changed a few other small things

EDIT: wow imageshack jpegs images now?  even all my old images that used to look fine are jpegd now.  Guess I have to use a new image host now, wow.

I think the face looks pretty good, though the forehead seems kind of short.  Though the neck and body arent too good, Id go and fix that first.

Ya I noticed your images are hosted on imageshack, as are alot of other peoples.  So Im not sure why mine are all jpegd all of a sudden.  Do you have some sort of premium account there or just the normal account?  Just the very day I posted that image all my files became jpegd, even the old ones that Ive had uploaded for years that were previously fine.
edit:actually it seems its not all my files, just the more recent ones.

the perspective of the chin is a bit off; in the ref it has a smoother curve + and is larger.

it's really fun to watch your workflow on these :)
