Off to a good start there Elk.
Here's my WIP.

I kinda want to show my process with this one a bit. I'm probably being overly ambitious, but that's the way I like to learn, thrown in the deep end.
Edit:
Btw, this is very early in, 2 minutes in, so is not at all representative of the final product. At least I hope not :)
Edit 2: A warrior appears. Kinda fleshed out the basics now.
Edit 3:
Oh man, gold. Not as easy as I thought. I've had a look at some of fools work as well cure and a3ums. I'm sure the influences will show somewhere.
Edit 4: progress, but I need some sleep and time to rethink some of my choices.

I'm just gonna sit here and watch all of the Mario references flow in.

My wip.
Decided to draw a druid. He has a strange wooden staff and a rather large shield. And he is dressed in a cloak of needle hedgehog =D

There is a solution: Upsize it, make this one the small one!

Question, are we allowed 32 colours plus transparency for this challenge? Or is transparency included as one of the colours. Just asking seeing as we're working with sprites.

I have a question too haha
do sprites have to be standing next to each other like in the reference from Syosa or can I make them like this:

Not sure if I'll have enough motivation and time to complete this.. And.. I have a question too. Can the smaller sprites change pose etc?

I guess no because "The space betwen the spries must be transparent."

Hello, folks!
I have the same question.
And another one: are we allowed to make fan-art of existing characters?

imo, the point this week is to create in such a way so that the larger and smaller versions read equally. The Syosa example pretty much explains it all.

I want to draw one of my favourite movie characters.

I decided to enter this challenge after so long :)
I have a question; does the resizing rule apply to guidelines as well? I mean, the guidelines only help in the construction of pixel art and aren't the actual part of pixel art (just like with traditional art), but I'm not entirely sure if it can be resized...

The OP does state "new and original character", so I'm not so sure you can tbh.

I think the "new and original character" rule shall not be very strict.

Up until this update, I thought the shield was a flowing cape x)
Nice work, looks great either way.

DatMuffinMan, I kinda wish I thought of using a flowing cape, would of made it look more dynamic.
You two guys above, just woah
Here's todays progress for me. Kinda fleshing out the bigger guy at the moment.

Edit: Starting to take shape I think. I've added a few things to the bigger guy and really liked it, so have changed the smaller one accordingly.

Here's what I got so far.
I'm not sure how I feel about doing the bigger guy so I might do a even smaller one.
These colors are taken and switched a tad from the DB 32 for those who are wondering.
But man, all these entries are mind boggling beautiful!

Hey guys, I've joined this challenge. Super excited since this will be my first time participating!
My question is, where do I submit the final? The instructions come off a bit conflicting for me saying, 'Posting WIPs in this thread or in new threads in the http://www.pixeljoint.com/forum/forum_topics.asp?FID=8 - WIP section is highly encouraged, but ONLY SUBMIT YOUR FINAL ART.'
Thank you guys!

Submit it to the gallery and check the box for weekly challenge.
To submit to the gallery I think you go to your profile and there should be a submit art button.

And here's todays progress.

Edit:
Nearlynoon, that looks awesome. Reminds me of something off of Disney's Hercules.
Edit 2:
I was really dreading doing the bottom trousers :/ It looks okay right? Next to work on the spear.

Some small progress today!
@Damian, your details are really something! I think you did fine on those pantaloons, they read nicely.

Great job Damian. My only crit is that maybe each having different weapons spoil the spirit of the challenge :/

Well actually, they both have spears, I just haven't gotten to increasing the canvas height to fit the larger one in. But that is next on my job list as stated in my post above.

Wow Thu and Damian.... I don't know what to say. These are ridiculous!
Oh yeah, and one question that I have is are we allowed to add a different colors to our bigger sprite?

Thanks guys.
NearlyNoon, I'm really looking forward to the finished version of the larger one. The design and aesthetic is there and I love it.
I kinda like failureboy's at the moment. Smaller one needs to be changed to look like the bigger one though.
Elk, :)

Well, dammit. Why does it have to end tommorow.
Screw my paid works, I would've joined in without second thoughts.
Rarely do you get to see this quality for a competition. Great job everyone.

@Thu- That is looking really epic. Hope you can finish, before the week ends.
I personally prefer the blue hanging cloth of the one on the left. I just prefer its shape. It might go better with the general design.
