Hey guy's, just a small portrait I started today, was wondering if I could get some tips for shading with only two colors. It all just looks off to me...
Thank you for your time,
Ick.

First I would zoom out a little and let the portrait exist in space. Because of the slightly side-on viewing angle, there should be more space in the direction the person is looking. Your portrait itself is quite good, I think it just needs a more flattering composition and it'll shine a bit more.
One last thing: make your colors a little more contrasting. Then it'll be fine.
I made an edit, if it helps:
During this edit I found that the image had three colors (just some accidental pixels of a nearly identical shade- easy to miss). You might want to fix that!

Thank you for finding the third color, I accidentally had the color range tool set to a higher tolerance! That's what I get for using tools rather than my eyes.
I've increased the contrast, and increased the space as suggested. I made the ear larger (It wasn't right when you considered his nose size and where the eyes should be.) and made a small change to his hat's bill.
Thanks for the advice and observations. It looks much more appealing now.
Ick.
