As a girl, I'm having a really hard time picturing myself with abundant facial hair... so long wookie, blue wormhead it will be

Voltali, do an http://www.quick-break.net/c/2012/10/18/Robert_Downey_Jr._lip_bite.gif - animated lip bite and collect ALL THE TROPHIES!
Great job btw.

Nicely done. :)
There should have been 1 more race that is more forgiving with facial hair. Where am I suppose to shelter my moustache?
Guess it's yodas species for me.

I started something, looks slightly more like Elrond than me though. Twi'lek was pretty much the only choice, i dont have any facial hair and im pretty young so yoda was out of the question. having no hair looks weeeeird.

Siikikala, very nice! Voltali obscur, it's too soon to tell, but you'll probably get one of my votes.
I was pixeling this when realized that -sigh- it's supposed to be a portrait! I assume this doesn't match the specifications of the challenge. But it wasn't 100% time wasted.

I really like the character of Yoda, so I prefer to pixel myself as his race.

Oh no, there's going to be a lot of Twi'leks, aren't there? Haha, at least I'll be a sith one, but only because I can't be a Darth Maul-ian.

Great, @tyrant, my kudos. There's really talented people here. Please, forgive my insolence, but if I may make a humble suggestions... the shadow that the hood casts on the face feels a little too dark, and the eyesbrows may look better a little more arcuate before smiling and as straight as shown when smiling.
@Vuelos, I think the wookie option is way more challenging than the other two, it's definitely more difficult to translate anyone's features to a wookie... and nice first attempt!

Any ideas for background? Or any other criticism?
Edit:
 Almost done... Anything, anyone?

It looks pretty flawless to me, except I don't understand the dark horizontal line that seperates both cheeks from the chinbones, at the same level as the bottom of the nose. I don't know what you look like IRL, but if that's just some natural wrinkles, perhaps you could move the horizontal cheek wrinkles up or down a pixel, so it's not a completely straight line across your whole face?
Also, I do like the colour. Particularly the background. It's a bit avocado, isn't it?

@CELS; I certainly don't have a horizontal line across my face :) I'll do as you say. Actually I added my facial features (bald, wide head, sleepy eyes, facial hair, glasses) to Yoda and what came out is just like my uncle :)
My uncle:

@Siikikala; you're talking about Breaking Bad right? I have only seen the poster but all my friends say I'm almost exactly like Walter White :)
I just took a selfie (I didn't refer to the photo):

You're a handsome man, Gecimen. But I was hoping you looked more like your uncle IRL. No homo.
But now I have no idea where that horizontal line came from. Was that supposed to be the shadow cast from the glasses?
PS: Every bald guy with glasses and a goatee gets told that he looks like Walter White. It's the equivalent of every black guy being told he looks like Denzel Washington or, if he has big ears, Barack Obama.

the floppy cheeks adds age so i guess that's why it looks more like your uncle. Young looking yoda might look weird too though.

@dyluck-thanks for the critiques! It's always beneficial to have a fresh set of eyes look at your work.
Updated version with longer holds, gave the eyebrows some movement, and lightened two values of the purple hues:

This is really great. The face is particularly impressive, and I think you did a pretty good job with the dithering.
I think the animation would be even cooler if you looped the first bit a little while longer, where she has her eyes closed, as if meditating. It's not as if people will get bored watching this within 0.7 seconds and leave before the show starts. I like a tiny bit of suspense, even for short animations. :)
I'm assuming that stuff on her fist is force lightning, but to me it reads more like smoke. Very erratic and flimsy smoke. Perhaps you could make the lightning move a bit slower, and perhaps divide it into a thick line and several thin lines branching off the thick line. The thick line would move slower, and the thin branches would move more erratically.
I also think you could use some of that orange on the thick line, to give it a nice glowing effect, and make it look less like smoke. I know force lightning is supposed to be blue, but bright yellow and orange works better for contrast in this piece, right?
Finally, I realize this is probably due to a lack of space, but the digit bones (proximal phalanges) do appear rather short to me, even given the perspective. And her palm seems to conceal the rest of the fingers, which is a bit weird to me. I'd expect to see at least a little bit more of her pinky, at this angle.
Don't have time for an edit. Maybe later.

@Vuelos, I think (based on pictures of wookiees) head broader, because of all the hair, the eyes need to be a bit smaller (though you may have eyes like that? ), also because of the size you need a bit of directional lighting. Here's a bit of an attempt at updating your image.

@CELS- Thanks! Yeah, I'm not so good at effects animation. I had a look at some other pixel art/sprites with animated electricity for some pointers. Hopefully it reads better now. Also, edited the hand and added a couple more hold frames at the beginning.

That's much cooler, tyrant!
Did you experiment with some shiny light flashing on the head, like you did on the fist?
