Hello!
You may have seen my awful attempt at a robot (I am a noob to the world of pixels :P), I've moved onto something that could help with my future career as an indie game dev.
So I started by making a stone block, the colour is based around a greyish blue which I believe to be a good choice. However, I am terrible when it comes to colours in general so I'd like some feedback on this basic sprite.
(Also, please tell me if I've done something wrong with shading etc.. It all helps)

This is how it would look in a game, as you can see it pretty much tiles well enough :)

What is the material of the bricks? If they are made of stone they might be a little too shiny on top depending on the texture, on that note where exactly is the lightsource exactly coming from.
The tiling is nice, unless you didn't intend to have smaller bricks between the big ones. Though, if this is for a game you might want to mix up the tiles a bit. I would be pretty bored if I was forced to look at this for a whole level :P

they are supposed to be stone bricks. just so you know, this would be the sort of floor for a castle of some sort and not the entire map ;P
I guess considering it's in a castle, you would either have a well lit castle that's clean and pristine, or you would have a run-down castle and the stone would be more dull and broken/cracked.
I think the variation between small bricks and big bricks is interesting so I think I'll keep that but I do see your point about the "shine", I was just trying to show how it almost "pops" as well as the darker blue on the bottom of each brick like the shine to almost add a "3d" effect (not flat stone, more sticky-outy :D).

I would vary the colors a little more, it'll look more interesting with a little green/purple/etc instead of just different shades of the same color

I still only aspire to be a pixel artist, but in my opinion, the highlight up top is too strong. It somehow makes the brick look shiny. If it were me, and I think this is a pure design choice, I would put one black pixel in each corner, so as to give the edges a bit of a rounded look.
Looks pretty good to me other than a few tiny nitpicks.
EDIT: I messed with it a bit, but mainly for practice. I tried to get rid of the highlight, since it's background. I thought it may detract from the player sprite. I don't know if it's better or worse, but here is what I did:
as an outside crumbly wall

Having a bright colour above it fine, because thats where light hits the object first. However you need to think about the material a bit too. If the highlight is too bright it looks shiney, which is not a bricks characteristic, so just bring it down, maybe even desaturate it a bit. I wouldn't all out remove the highlight though. The edit above also incorporates more variation in colour. Typically pixel artists like to move all there darker colours towards purple and then all their brighter colours towards light blue and yellows.
