I guess my first piece of advice would be to start over on a smaller canvas. A design this simple does not need 256x256.

What canvas size do you recommend?

thanks for the reply :)

A small file in the gallery is defined as 100x100 or less, so if it's something simple like an untextured stone with blue lines, I'd start there.

Honestly, the smaller the better when you first start out. The bigger the canvas, the harder it is to control every detail.

This? 32² or something around that. I think it would work nicely as a simple platformer mockup though. Just some tiles for the ground, a simple starry background, and then a couple of sprites for bushes, rocks, and that magic glowy rock.

I guess I wouldn't draw individual blades of grass on a green field like this. Just shade the hill as is there were grass on it. The stars are kinda evenly spaced and shy away from the edge of the screen and other boundaries in a way that looks artificial. The color of the rock itself is good, but the lines are a little too sharp in comparison and there's so few of them that they seem to be randomly drawn on rather than an ingrained pattern on the surface, but I'm not sure if that was deliberate. Big step up over all though.

Check out Skeddles' grassy hill:

This is what I meant about not drawing individual blades of grass, and just shading as if they're there.

Please do not submit to the gallery pixel for which you have a WIP thread running because others will likely ignore your threads in the future.

You don't have to close a thread when you're done or anything like that. Its obvious to all when you've done all you can.
