The Open Pixel Platformer will continue!
After 1.5 years of silence, Damian, Noburo and I have decided to kick this project back in action
What is the OPP?
The open pixel platform is a collaboratively created pixel art platform tile set. Back in 2013 we started this, and within a few months time almost 30 people contributed towards a kit that has now been http://opengameart.org/content/open-pixel-platformer-tiles-sprites - downloaded over 1500 times by game developers.
Also, the members of the Frogatto team were working on a http://www.pixeljoint.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=16828 - demo game , here at PJ.
The project fell apart when the wiki server crashed which organised all the files, and ultimately I did not have the time to fix that or help the community any more.
What is going on now?
http://opp.opengameart.org/index.php/Main_Page - The wiki is completely renewed and back online, and we have started on improving and filling in missing parts of the jungle tiles and characters. Something we encourage you to take part in too, see the other forum posts!
Our first goal is to finish the jungle set as soon as possible. This will be a great advertisement for the pixel art community, and we just love seeing our artwork used in real games.
Would you like to see your tiles being used in various game projects?
In the OPP you can get quick feedback from other artists, contribute simply by editing existing work, or even just by joining the various discussions! It is easy to get started, and we could really use the input.
Go over to the http://www.pixeljoint.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=20453 - Jungle tiles or http://www.pixeljoint.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=20454 - characters threads and fill in wherever you like :). For inspiration, check out this http://www.pixeljoint.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=20453&PID=196215#196215 - wishlist . Most important is that we are all having fun!
What would be your dreams and wishes for this project?
If you would help out, what would you like to see here?
Discussion, comments and ideas are very much welcome in this thread!
