So what are we doing in this thread? Well, we're being vein mostly and because I personally love the OPP's simple character design and style, thought, hell, this project needs more of, well, ME! And you, of course some more of YOU! So thats what we're doing here, we're going to create some avatars of ourselves in OPP style!

Here are the Guidelines

OPP CHALLENGE: OPP-atar

Design a character in OPP style that either looks like you, or you just simply wish to use as an avatar.

Here's the Pallet.

Canvas Size    - 64 x 64.
Colours           - Dawn Bringers 32 colour pallet
Transparency - Optional
Animation      - Optional
Background    - Do whatever! Simpler is sometimes better!

Heres are a few examples Of avatars made so far.

Hapiel:
The guy who juggles everything, including the OPP

Damian:

Noburo:

DatMuffinMan:

Gogglecrab:

Siikikala: I kinda really like that shadow idea. Might incorporate that into my own.

Sir Cutswood:

Bathmaster:

Dr D:

Jalonso

DDR

Harmonica

I'll update this post with each OPP-atar that gets made

And as always, have fun!

Added yours to the post.

I was wondering, now that I have it as an avatar, should we have a dark border or something?
Btw guys, we are pretty much open to any and all suggestions in how to improve these avatars!

Letters... not.... centered...

Date Posted: 20 January 2015 at 3:27pm
If the letters are centered then we loose the O behind the head, and then we're only left with PP

gottem :D

edit - no the avatar isn't ready. The head is too small. Might make a different version later.

Well, you're not exactly alone there, I just spent the past 15 minutes trying to figure out what "Atar" meant...

Anyway, I gotta give a big thumbs up to Damian, I frickin' love this idea!

So without further ado...

THERE! You know what I look like now! Happy?!? You tell anyone I swear to god I will hunt you down.

Also, I gotta say, if we post these to the gallery, it'd be excellent advertising for the OPP. Definitely going to use this as my avatar for awhile now!

Although I have not contributed anything to this project (though I plan to), here is mine. Any advice and comments on it match to the style would be nice.

I believe Damian is going to write a new styleguide on (human) sprites one day!...
In general: More cartoony, less detail can never hurt. I made a quick edit and tried to enlarge the head, widen the body, remove some dark outlines:

These are all great...
Question. Why is everyone doing a red nose?

@BathMaster: not bad! The toga fits for a 'bath master' :)

Alright, I'm going to need some help on perfecting my avatar.

Suggestions, anyone?

Posted By: Hapiel
Date Posted: 21 January 2015 at 7:25am
Sure!

Some little things to start with: The ear looks a bit like a hanging dogs ear. Maybe by drawing a line on the top it will look disconnected from the top of the skull
A belt like this would be worn above the hips, right? This guy either has very low hips, or a very low belt..  Try and imagine what he looks like underneath, that might help :)

Give it some depth & form! This is hard, I know I've been there too. But try to imagine the body as a 3d shape and figure out where direct light would not hit. For example if your source is top right, the left side of the body can be shaded, and so can the face. Simplifying the details such as the wrinkles decreases the necessity of realistic shading!

At last, a darker outline especially on the skin will help it to stand out more against the red background.

If you post an update, I am sure others can point out things too! Keep up the good work :)

Update

Trying to squeeze out all the imperfections. I've raised the belt, shaded the toga more, outlined it all in black, and tried to detach the ear as much as possible. Did I do it right?

Yep, I think I'm finished. This was really fun to make!

Bathmaster, very fitting :) Some critique, the beard doesn't really look like a beard at the moment, to me it actually looked like some odd shading. Really easy to fix though, just make sure the mustache part of the beard starts directly underneath the nose. There are also some other minor things, but I'll post about that another time.

Also, woah! Wasn't expecting this sort of response! :) I'll update the main post in a bit. Also, if you guys edit your avatars I'll update them when I can. But, yeah, they all look good so far.

I tried to change the color of the shaded toga along with the beard changes.

I was just experimenting with the toga, seeing what you guys think about it.

EDIT: Now that I look at it more in comparison to the light blue, grey looks pretty bad.

Fantastic animation!

Decided to make one too.

Had some trouble getting the skin colors right. I wanted it a bit darker, but the shades didn't feel right to me.

Also a bit of lazy animation as well. =D

I'm spinning an N64 Game Cartridge. Can you guess which one?

So I rerendered mine and animated it. Granted the animation is a bit choppy.

Animated and still version.

It looks a liiiitle bit too animated. He looks like there's a two-stroke gasoline engine in his stomach. You can be a little more subtle about the animation. It does look really funny though!

Thank you Bathmaster! I do agree, I exaggerated too much on the cartoon animation.

But as per Damian's crits back in the main PJ site, here is a new version.
