CHALLENGE: Ned Kelly

It's Australia Day, so this week's theme is the infamous outlaw, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ned_Kelly - Ned Kelly . Your image can be anything from a portrait of the man himself to a creative interpretation of his iconic armour.

Canvas Size - Max 200 x 200.
Colours - Max 26.
Transparency - Optional.
Animation - Optional.

CHALLENGE RULES

  • Participants have until this upcoming Sunday at midnight (12AM Pacific) to /pixels/submit_icons.asp'>submit their entry (strict). Don't forget to check the 'Submit to weekly challenge' checkbox.
  • Only new pixels allowed.
  • Open to all members.
  • Posting WIPs in this thread or in new threads in the /forum/forum_topics.asp?FID=8'>WIP section is highly encouraged, but ONLY SUBMIT YOUR FINAL ART.

CHALLENGE JUDGING

  • Every Sunday at midnight (12AM Pacific) the previous week's entries are judged.
  • Every week a new voting poll will be posted for previous week's entries.
  • Winner announced the following week.

CHALLENGE PRIZES/GOODIES

  • Top three finishers will receive an award displayed in your PJ gallery profile for all to see and envy.
  • Top finisher gets to call the following week's challenge...sweet.
  • 'Participation' ribbons will be given for all who enter.
  • No matter what happens you get challenged :)

Can someone tl;dr who Ned Kelly is for everyone that's not Australian and doesn't want to read a 17306 word wikipedia article that according to wikipedia's standards is very likely to be incorrect anyways?

There is a http://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ned_Kelly - simple English version of the article, which is still fairly long.

tl;dr: He's a very naughty boy.

A good place to start looking for inspiration is by searching for "Sidney Nolan Ned Kelly"

I agree, this challenge is sure not for everyone. I`ve never heard of this man. In addition, you have to make a pixel based on someone`s life; that`s challenging.. but weird Oo
Also, claiming one person as a symbol of a whole country, isn`t it ridiculous?

Whether you want to practice portraits or metal texture, or even design skills if you choose to redesign the character of the man, there's tons of good stuff there.


Edit: Also, if you don't know who Ned Kelly is, you haven't been watching enough Discovery Channel/Nat Geo!

I'll tell you one thing, I didn't know of him before all this but after catching a glimpse of that armour, hehe, I sure as hell do now. Things like this are right up my ally!

Anyhow, after an eager read up on him I quickly sketched this out

Still far from done but it's a start. Thinking of turning it into a game mockup. That's allowed right?

WIP

My original idea was to have stuff hanging out the hole, but the thing hanging out in the version on the right obscures the hole too much, so I made a version with a package. I'm not sure which version I like more.

I like the idea a lot! I also like the thing sticking out of the slit- but I think you would be able to pull it off better, without making it look so cluttered, if you scale the whole thing up a bit. It's too small imo.
