CHALLENGE: Charon's Stones

NASA recently released fly-by pictures of pluto's moon, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charon_%28moon%29 - Charon , taken by their space probe, 'New Horizons'.

However, What you won't hear about in the news is that Pixel Joint secretly launched a space craft of their own! It was led by multi-award-winning pixel artist, http://pixeljoint.com/p/6236.htm - Tomic . Captain Tomic gave his crew the task of pixelling what they found on the surface of Charon.

Word has it that these top secret images will be released to the public over the course of this week!

Canvas Size - Unrestricted.
Colours - Max 16. Must include #134340.
Transparency - No.
Animation - Optional.

CHALLENGE RULES

  • Participants have until this upcoming Sunday at midnight (12AM Pacific) to /pixels/submit_icons.asp'>submit their entry (strict). Don't forget to check the 'Submit to weekly challenge' checkbox.
  • Only new pixels allowed.
  • Open to all members.
  • Posting WIPs in this thread or in new threads in the /forum/forum_topics.asp?FID=8'>WIP section is highly encouraged, but ONLY SUBMIT YOUR FINAL ART.

CHALLENGE JUDGING

  • Every Sunday at midnight (12AM Pacific) the previous week's entries are judged.
  • Every week a new voting poll will be posted for previous week's entries.
  • Winner announced the following week.

CHALLENGE PRIZES/GOODIES

  • Top three finishers will receive an award displayed in your PJ gallery profile for all to see and envy.
  • Top finisher gets to call the following week's challenge...sweet.
  • 'Participation' ribbons will be given for all who enter.
  • No matter what happens you get challenged :)

Made some progress here, and I have used up 8 out of total 16 colors. Thoughts?

Got my sketch done, starting to block in basic shapes. I like how the palette turned out, but I might have to add another shade or two depending on how it turns out. It's also a bit big, so I'll probably scale it down once the shapes are blocked in.

The main problem for me is the craters, they just seem very flat and aren't the quality I'd expect from a Mrmo piece.

Finally finished one part of this piece. It's rather huge and i'm contemplating weither or not to animate it.

A fast entry, Starting a challenge piece on sunday wasn't such a great idea.
Anyway I had fun on it and tried to improve my banding issues.
