Hello,

I am making simple game. This is multi player, tactical, top down shooter games based on Star Control 2 in Game Maker Studio. Please check video description for more details.

I wonder if it would be possible to find few artist to collaborate on this game together ? I am not searching for people who will draw graphics for my game for free. I made this game to allow artist to express their ideas and create graphics for other purposes then portfolio or challenges.

It really does not matter for me what would be theme for the game. I just picked one because it was easy to find resources. It could be nice challenge to first pick the main theme of the game. Below are just few examples:
  • XVI century wooden pirate ships traveling on water between islands
  • SCI FI space ships traveling on space between asteroids and planets
  • Steam punk iron ships traveling on sky above ground between artificial flying bases
  • XVII flying ships flying above water (there is no land) between levitating islands
  • anything else that is capable to defend it self as a whole concept art
This first phase could be done by drawing a composition (screen from the game) what is your vision of the theme. Composition should contains following items and can be made in any rule you have on forum:
  • Foreground, which could be cloud that would be part of fog of war
  • Background, which would slowly move below player controlled ship
  • Player ship in center part of screen
  • Two types of projectiles fired from player ship for example laser beam and rockets
  • Propulsion effect from player ship (smoke, fire) drawn when moving ship around
  • Another ship, different then player, without projectiles
  • Neutral object like asteroid that has no logic in game other then obstacle, that would collide with player ship
  • Active object in game like island where player team base exist, and respawn is made
  • Point of control / checkpoint / milestone etc, which is a virtual place which players try to capture to win the game, for example capture the flag, or domination etc.
Game will be available for free on desktop platforms and its made in game maker, best tool to make games from pixel art sprites.

Regards
Tom

A quick change into wooden ships theme. I picked resources from RPG maker so every ship has 4 directions plus 3 sprites per animation and rest the is the same just to show you the idea.

Original space theme

My proposition for collaboration / challenge is:

1) Draw battlefield panorama like this

http://www.makoweabc.pl/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/Panorama-Raclawicka.jpg -
2) That will look like this

3) With every artist draw single soldier / vehicle / object / spell / activity / action whatever.

4) Theme of the panorama can be chosen by Admin (it does not have to be ships in space nor XVIII battle with characters).

5) Then we will pick these characters / vehicles / soldiers into the game it self in similar fashion to what was made in Metal Slug series

So this image

would be decomposed into this

6) And finally added to the game with additional animation frames.

Tom
