CHALLENGE: Catformer

Create a mock-up of a platform game where the player controls a cat (any kind of cat is fine).

Canvas Size - Max 320 (width) x 240 (height).
Colours - Max 16.
Transparency - No.
Animation - Optional.

CHALLENGE RULES

  • Participants have until this upcoming Sunday at midnight (12AM Pacific) to /pixels/submit_icons.asp - submit their entry (strict). Don't forget to check the 'Submit to weekly challenge' checkbox.
  • Only new pixels allowed.
  • Open to all members.
  • Posting WIPs in this thread or in new threads in the /forum/forum_topics.asp?FID=8 - WIP section is highly encouraged, but ONLY SUBMIT YOUR FINAL ART.

CHALLENGE JUDGING

  • Every Sunday at midnight (12AM Pacific) the previous week's entries are judged.
  • Every week a new voting poll will be posted for previous week's entries.
  • Winner announced the following week.

CHALLENGE PRIZES/GOODIES

  • Top three finishers will receive an award displayed in your PJ gallery profile for all to see and envy.
  • Top finisher gets to call the following week's challenge...sweet.
  • 'Participation' ribbons will be given for all who enter.
  • No matter what happens you get challenged :)

You should try to pixel this cleanly in all your pixels.
You often tend to overpixel uncontrolled.
This here is nice and is a nice surprise

That's looking great - the cat looks a bit gloomy though and the ramp somehow looks wrong as though it should be shaded a little more heavily.

What are the enemies, they look like pickles?

This is really nice work. I think the over land scene looks better than the underground. Great detail and use of colour on both though.

Just so you know that I didn't copy it or anything xD luckily I uploaded it on deviantart just before you made this post.
And I also had the same Idea as you with the cat tree theme and such but I already changed that.
I'm pretty amazed how much we thought about the same thing (probably Soulmates or something)

Thanks! And yeah I'm going to work on the shading a little more before I submit it.

The enemies are supposed to be cucumbers :P Cats are apparently traumatized by then lol.

Haha well it's a pretty basic tabby cat look, doubt any feuds would have happened over it.

Platformers have to have the obvious to really fall in the genre.

Snake Rattle N Roll has 'platforms' but that is simply terrain, not platforms. Iso games can be platformers.

A game can have a ship that shoots and not be a SHMUP.

Wow, this looks wonderful. I really loved the first panel and the khajiit reference. Great job, MRMO.

Hm, i kinda have a silly idea on my mind but don't know how it's working right now.

And the clouds back there will do a parallax that keeps moving.


But i still don't know how to do the sprite or the background, any tips? And sorry for my english.

It has been very busy week, so I started animating my platformer as late as today.

I am making a cinematic platformer (if we believe in Wikipedia). Hopefully this counts as a platformer, if not, it will be cool animation! :p

For some reason I imagine your cat in that old game "impossible mission", might be worth taking a look at that.

hmmmm? maybe not unless there are some form of actual platforms.
I'm not a formal challenge mod so maybe cinematic platforms are accepted :/

If you watch closely there is a cat in first 20 frames. Others are just for basis.
